Last night, going into the break, the atrium in the background suddenly jolted up and down (camera knocked i guess), which looked wierd.

Um, it's actually playing out from a DVD. It's not live.

Um, I think we *know* it's not real, thanks. However, that doesn't stop it looking weird when the background picture suddenly jolts independently of the foreground.

Slightly off topic.....

CNN International carried a nice piece today about the late Terry Lloyd. Apparently, back in the UK there is an ongoing inquest into the events that led to his passing.

How much coverage is this actually being given in the UK? There were some assertions in CNN's piece that Terry's death could be treated as a war crime, due to impositions made by UK forces on correspondents during the conflict.

This seems to have raised its head all of a sudden.

It was nice, though, to hear Sir Trevor paying a fine tribute to Terry.

it looks like ITV News have opened their China bureau. John Ray starts his new job as China correspondent, and Mark Austin will be in Beijing all next week.

John Ray has written a diary of his week in Press Gazette this week about the challenges of establishing the bureau and dealing with the Chinese authorities to get - amongst other things - permission for the ITV News to be presented from Beijing.

Quite a lot. It's been reported on all channels, not just ITV. And of course ITN are giving it lots of airtime. On the first day of the inquest it was the lead on the ITV Evening News.

A fairly opportune moment to open your Beijing bureaux as it turns out.

I haven't had much chance to watch ITV News lately, but I caught the Evening News tonight and talk about being (near) the right place at the right time. Though they can be good when a major story happens, but when it's something silly they go too OTT.

It's been the lead story on Central News East since the inquest started. Well the CNE team is based in "Terry Lloyd House" afterall (he was a reporter for Central before joining ITN)

Must say I've been impressed with ITV News this week. The team seem to really be putting in an effort. There were even some special graphics!

I think the China stuff they are doing is fascinating. People might argue it's not news, well it's a different type of news and I'm finding it much more interesting than your plain order-of-importance daily events sequence.

Great stuff. Try coping that., BBC.
