I think ITV would be stupid to move the late news again. If it didn't work between 1999 and 2001 with the Nightly News, why would it work again now?

By the way, what does everyone think of the ITN endcaps? I think they're hideous. I've tried to like them, but they just don't work. What was wrong with that lovely blue endcap with the ITN logo in white? The new ones look cheap and nasty (as does the ITN website).

Didn't the Nightly News get higher figures then the news at 10.30?

Well it would work from the point of view that films could be shown between 9pm-11pm without a break for the news. However ITV dont show films all that often in these slots. Its mainly 60 or 90 minute drama. And what would happen to the regional slots at 11pm - they would be pushed back even later to 11.30pm, HTV Wales show regional programmes at 11pm about 3 nights a week, whilst I know the other regions only seem to show them on Thursday's.

This isn't new news at all - it cropped up soon after the move to 10.30pm.

Of all the scheduling plans since 1999, the original Nightly News at 11pm worked the best IMO - not just for the news but for the schedule as a whole.

Half an hour of news between 10pm and 11pm is perfect, The News at 10:30 is fine as it is, I'd be very annoyed if they moved it later.

Today's Evening Standard media diary suggests that ITV are once again floating the idea of pushing the late news back to 11pm.

I think it was on here I read they were thinking of moving it to 11.00pm for Love Island's run, though it didn't happen you couldn't help question ITV's intention of having an hour long Love Island between 10 and 11, though this didn't happen, it became 10.00-10.30 and 11.00-11.30.

I think it would be silly, the 10.30 has settled down now and people know what to expect from it. Yes it isn't a ratings winner but most nights it usually comes second in ratings. The only time a 11.00pm bulletin is needed whenever a Movie is showed at 9.00pm and during a major sport event such as the World Cup which usually 9 times out of 10 has a habit of over running.

If they ever decide to give this go ahead then they should give it sometime before this happens, get the programmes made and ready, at the moment the 10.00pm-10.30pm slot is for the last 30 minutes of a Drama, or some of the new 30 minute Documentaries and Comedies that ITV are supposedly planning. When News At Ten was axed first time round one of the problems was that it was done quickly some of the programmes between 10.00pm and 11.00pm hadn't been fully made yet, so they had a habit of showing cráp in this slot, such as Blooper programmes..

At least so far this year they've stopped screening "TV Naughtiest Blunders" (or similar) in the post-Champions league slot, continuing after the news at 11.00pm.

It isn't really a surprise it's come up again considering a couple of weeks ago the ITV drama bloke said they were going to stop making 90 minute dramas (as standard) and go back to 60 minutes.

an over used statement I know - but getting rid of News at Ten was one of the worst decisions ITV have ever made.

Indeed plus the fact that the BBC moved their's to Ten, which they didn't know at the time with the benfit of hindsight

The 10.30pm bulletin does cause some problems as it means they can't compete with the other commercial channels and show 'off peak' programmes like a US drama or The Frank Skinner show at 10pm. They either have to wait until 11pm, meaning the show doesn't finish until after Midnight, or show it in two parts which is unpopular

They've got 3 choices really, leave it at 10.30, move it to 11pm and start to show hour long programmes at 10, or move it to 10pm and go head to head with the BBC, but have a stronger slot at 10.30

Either way they should just decide on a slot and stick to it - the news has been moved around enough, first at 10pm, then 11pm, then 10pm again, then 10.30pm, and now they are talking about moving it again....

What was with the ITV News at 22.30 tonight? The agenda/running order was a little questionable. The lead story was a follow-up of the Israel/Lebanon war which took up a whole 7 minutes of the programme. John Prescott's speech at the Labour conference was relegated to second place, followed by an Iraq ambush and Richard Hammond. They then went straight into sports news and over to the regions. There wasn't even a news in brief section tonight. Granada was just as bad, too. Over half the bulletin was dedicated to sport with only around 3 news stories.

I must admit that I don't feel very educated about the day's events. Was it a different editor tonight or something?
