The thing is however, ITV even bothered to show the Mark Austin trailer tonight, "the new face of News at 10.30 weeknights". Not "Mon-Thurs", weeknights.

Then the bulletin comes on, and it's James Mates.

It's small inconsistencies like this that piss the viewer right off. (well probably not your average viewer but me anyway).

I agree. And if he is being promoted as presenting the ITV News at 10.30 weeknights then he really should present it every weeknight, unless of course he is on annual leave or off sick or something.

I think they should give someone else a chance on the 6.30pm bulletin, there are more than enough presenters so it seems unfair one presenter does both of the main bulletins.

There is a problem with this though, ITV can't avoid the fact that the News at 10.30 is also broadcast on Fridays, so it would be unprofessional to confuse the viewer by saying 'Monday to Thursday'. As you say, the average viewer would not care/notice anyway, so no big problem.

I can understand Mark taking an extra day off now (as he has done fo almost every Friday anyway) , as his workload has now doubled, but I did expect him to complete his full schedule this week, as it is his first as the main man!

Why is there all this fuss about him having Friday off? How many top presenters actually do work 5 days a week?

Even if he only did 6.30pm he'd take Friday off, and if someone else did the 10.30pm they would take Friday off as well, so the promos would still be wrong!

Have I been drinking too much, or did James Mates say: "More on these stories on the ITV News Ch... um.... ITV.com." at the end?

i suppose this is one of the problems in getting somebody to present two high profile bulletins a day. It's very rare these days to see newsreaders doing five days a week on the one programme - let alone two.

Let's hope they come to their senses and bring somebody like Alastair Stewart or Steve Scott to replace Mark on either of the bulletins.

Alastair would be perfect for the early evening - just such a shame he has commitments to ITV London.

Almost! He said something along the lines of: "Regular bulletins throughout the weekend on the...um, here on ITV News of course, goodnight!"

It was only a matter of time, wasn't it!

Indeed, James Mates nearly slipped up at the end with "bulletins throughout the weekend on the ITV... ITV News.

They should have Alastair Stewart on itv london mon to thursday and on the Nightly News on fridays and Steve scott should be marks and nicks offical stand in
