I notice the 10.30 has reverted back to using the old, usual, boring close. I was beginning to like the new, more imaginative closes.
Its not that boring, as you still get a fly across the studio, you dont see that on any other main news programmes. Thats one thing I love about the new ITV News, these flying shots all the time, so much more interesting!
Hmm, I'd still rather have a newspresenting sitting on his/her ass behind a desk/table while bringing the news.
Don't you get that as well on ITV News? Clearly it's a subjective thing, but if ITV or the BBC were to showcase their news in front of seventies-style beige sets with painted hardboard backdrops, a presentation forum like this would quite rightly jump on it in no time! I guess TV design goes through fashions just like everything else...

I agree, they are at least better than BBC News on BBC 1, but the shots from behind the cameras were quite interesting, plus we still got the fly past too.
Watching the ITV News with Sir Trevor this evening, and I loved the way that they had a couple of moving shots and had pictures and footage on the screen and have even been pulled out a bit on the what would usually be the standard close up.
It was a nice change to using the close up to every story, they have the wall, and so even if they're sitting they should experiment with angles and images appearing on the wall.
I also noticed at Lunchtime and again this evening that the weather's changing. I'm not sure whether they're listening to us, watching certain regional bulletins or whether it's just Robin's take on the new graphics, but the background has been a cloudy background or rainy background depending on the majority of the weather, it certainly improves it!
Due to the big news at lunchtime today, we seen something unusual for the lunchtime ending. Instead of the usual zoom out of presenter and uneven shots of the studio which sometimes look a bit stupid, we got Andrea Catherwood sitting at the desk and a News at 10.30 ending. I think it looks better like that. I think ITV News should experiment more with endings with more graphics and behind-the-scenes camera shots.

ITN has selected the Norsat NewsLink™ to enable live and timely broadcasts of breaking news stories from around the world. The terminal will also be used to carry live exchanges between a nightly news anchor, based in a news hot spot, and the studio in London. The Norsat NewsLink™ will be shipped in the first quarter.
Malcolm Smith, Head of Operational Engineering, ITN, explains that a number of factors favored his group's decision to purchase the Norsat NewsLink, "It is 'airline-checkable' and lighter than other options. You can also do live transmissions at broadcast quality. From a timing perspective, it made sense as well. There are now many more high-powered satellites available, and the compression techniques are much improved. We felt comfortable that the Norsat NewsLink could be relied upon for live broadcasts around the world."
The Norsat NewsLink™ terminal is optimized for satellite newsgathering operations and can be deployed on short notice. "It can be checked in as baggage on a commercial airliner and we'll be able to start using it as soon as we arrive at a location. This is a big advantage because can get breaking stories on the air much faster," explains Malcolm Smith.
