On a different matter, overnights: it has been discussed ad hoc on this thread, but there has been comments if the News Channel shown ITV1 news repeats: "There's only so many times you can repeat [on the NC], Tonight with Trevor McDonald" - well, that is true. But, also, ITV has a wealth of current affairs programmes they could use.
Programmes like:
World In Action. Presented by Roger Cook.
Police,Camera, Action! BRILLIANT programme, with Alastair Stewart.
Tonight with Trevor McDonald.
and...
D-Day Dispatches. I loved this programme when it was shown on ITV1 in June last year.
Presented by John Suchet with:
Michael Nicholson
Angela Rippon HOME AFFAIRS CORRESPONDENT
Robert Moore WASHINGTON CORRESPONDENT
Alastair Stewart DEFENCE CORRESPONDENT
Colin Baker DEFENCE ANALYST
John Stapleton

A brilliant programme, with loads of acting.

Also, now five news has gone I think the ITV News Channel should get it's own studio. Nothing to flash - just a similar layout to the main studio without the newswall.

Interesting idea, but where would it go?
I suppose they could use the old five news studio, but this would be so much smaller than the current main ITV News studio.

Well - as I mentioned Five News I meant the old Five News studio. Also, what is the old ITV News studio used for now - that be plenty big enough!

They'd lose all the resources of the wall, the option to use it, and the very thing that makes the ITV News studio distinctive.

And why would they want to convert the old ITV studio which is currently their CSO set-up into another News Channel studio? With their virtual technology, they can make it look exactly like the main studio - it's almost a precise replica. It looks like it does have limitations, but I wonder whether the average viewer notices...

The ITV News Channel would still have access to the main studio, but it be more used for special programmes. However, the newswall would still be used for special reports - but done by reporters, not presenters. Somewhere in the mocks thread I mentioned that an ITV News Channel could appear to be the other half of the ITV News Channel - and the CSO screen would be positioned to look like the end of the news wall - so a bit of camera trickery would link them together.

However, the point about the newly improved CSO studio is taken. It's much better than the "2D" version and works well - although the difference is notable, especially with live reports on the screen.

What ITV need to do though is use it in such a way that presenters don't change suddenly an hour before the main bulletin. Either use it from 11am / 5pm / 9pm etc or follow the schedule I suggested earlier, with headlines from the main studio at half past (eg 5.30pm), linking into an extended weather bulletin (5.35pm), then Sport (CSO - 5.45pm) and a 30 minute bulletin on the hour.

As for overnight - to be honest it's not that important as viewers are scarce at the best of times - but it needs to be packaged better. I think at 11pm after the ITV1 bulletin they should produce an hour long ITV News Extra style programme.

This would be more of a look back on the days events than a standard news bulletin and although fronted live, it would be more of a magazine programme. As well as looking back on the news it would have features on the days sport, business, politics etc and a look at the mornings papers.

This could then be repeated through till 5am, when a repeat of ITV News Network could be shown. It would also be quite easy to insert news summaries into.

Another possibility is that the regional bulletins from the 10.30pm bulletin are all shown, repackages as kind of an ITV News Network Extra.

It's now the 100% virtual studio - used for The Briefing etc.

There seems to be a new feature on the News Channel during the 3pm hour - looking at the front pages of some of the regional newspapers.

You cannot be serious when you describe Police, Camera, Action! as a ''current affairs'' programme, can you?

And although it would be nice to see some other programmes used on the News Channel, surely the whole point of 'current affairs' is that it's current and topical? Old copies of World In Action and even the excellent D-Day Despatches are hardly either of those are they? Surely a rolling news channel must at least make a reasonable stab at showing current news?

I like the way they've gone back to using the overhead shot during the Thursday night signed bulletin - though it's weird seeing the same bloke twice in the picture.

John Suchet, Nicholas Owen and Jon Snow are apparently going to be among the 'celebrity' newsreaders on Monday's UK Radio Aid broadcast.

No it is the real 10.30. The 10.30 is on 5 Nights a week, and has been since ITV relaunched the late news last year. The weekend news is only on over the weekend, i.e. Saturday and Sunday.
