I posted this accidentally on London Tonight so I might as well post it in its rightful place
I was surfing around on MediaGuardian and discovered the news ratings for the tsunami specials and other regular bulletins.
Just proves that ITV News can still pull in the audience when its at the right time
Quote:
On Sunday, ITV1 ran a 60 minute news special - Tsunami: Seven Days That Shook The World - in place of a scheduled natural history documentary from 6pm.
The ITV1 news special also proved popular with viewers, attracting 6.5 million viewers and a 31% audience share.
Is anyone else missing Andrea Catherwood from ITV News? I went off her for a bit, but now she isnt appearing as often, I think she should come back more.

I don't agree with you there, I hate her, she needs to get her hair done properly. I think Steve and Felicity have basically taken over the Weekened News, the Evening News has a proper anchor now, in the form of Nina, so there is little for her to do. I think she might be taking a break after doing the Evening News quite often when Mary disappeared. Last thing I think I remember her doing was a Special Report, either Close Up or The Briefing?
The weather sponsership dissapeared today on the news channel - it improved the flow significantly. Also had a different line up today...
7am - 10am Chris Rogers and Leyla Deybelge then Alasdair
the afternoon was then Owen Thomas and Felicity Barr. I hope Leyla is moved to breakfast permanently

I had noticed that it had disappeared and Thank God really because the Budget sponsorship does get on my nerves, it's just nice now they can just go straight into the Weather. I do remember on more than one occassion when they'd only play out the sponsorship and forgot to play out the Weather bulletin itself!
Sorry if this has been mentioned before but why doesn't ITV News Channel have a Powergen sponsorship like ITV1's weather?
I presume it's because powergen only sponser the weather bulletins on ITV1. Wouldn't it be up to them to put an offer into ITV if they wanted to also sponser the News Channel bulletins?
For now though whilst they have no sponser, it would be nice to see the day's weather person/people in the studio at least during the day, I'd love to see the weather done on the wall, instead of pre recorded.
I noticed Layla on the Breakfast slot. It would be nice if she did get this, but what about Lucy? I quite like the Lucy & Andrew combo.
Nearly a year on, the channel could do with a kick up the arse to finally sort out it's schedules and to make more use of the studio. They have fantastic technology that they only seem to use for a few moments, even if it's different backgrounds rather than the floating squares it would be nice.

Err - could it be because Powergen only sponsor ITV1's weather? The demographic of the viewers of ITV1 and ITVNC are hardly likely to be the same - so it may be that Powergen have no interest in sponsoring weather on a news channel?
Anyone see the ITV News Channel at 12.29 this afternoon -
ITV News has released a trailer showing bits of reports from Bill Neely, Dan Rivers and John Irvine with an announcement from Steve Scott: "Live tsunami coverage all day on the ITV News Channel".
