Quite a good report "Washington Correspondent" James Mates filing a report from America about two US TV news anchors who are quitting their jobs - but why is he named Washington Correspondent - I thought Robert Moore was holding that post unless they've swapped.

Sounds a bit like Lawrence McGinty, I swear sometimes he is Science Editor and sometimes Medical Editor! As for James Mates, that is twice he has been in Washington, I think Robert Moore is having time off after the election seeing as he was on pretty constant there? Also since his rather embarrassing mistake on the Canary Wharf report, Nick Robinson seems to have disappeared slightly, although he was on the 6:40 tonight.

Nick Robinson doesn't usually do weekends, apart from big events. James Mates was Washington Correspondent from 1997-2002, I remember, so he can't be the new Washington man - can't he? But Julian Manyon is serving his second term as Middle East Correspondent.

Is he International Editor or Senior Correspondant now? I always get Bill Neely and James Mates mixed up... Embarassed

There seemed to be some problems at ITN during the Evening News - no huge problems, but it certainly seemed like something was wrong. The weather never appeared at the end, either. Just a Powergen ad, and a strange announcement over a static ITV1 logo - strange because the CA seemed not to want to admit that they were having problems!

I don't like to go in for character assassinations, but I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that Joyce Ohajah really isn't a very good presenter for a continuous news channel.

She seems to fluff her lines the whole time, seems completely lost whenever there's a technical problem and doesn't really cope with interviews and two-ways very well.

The evening shift (7-8 on the News Channel, ITV News Network at 9.30, London Tonight at 10.50, News Channel 11-midnight) is done *so* much better by Owen Thomas, who has a much warmer and more engaging style.

On the other hand, Joyce seems to work much better with a co-presenter - I enjoyed her co-presenting the main London Tonight programme with Alastair and when she did the News Channel's 4pm-5.30pm slot during the summer with a co-presenter she came across much better.

As has been said here before on several occasions by several people, the 7pm hour would be much improved if it had two presenters.

One of Angela's interviews this morning had been pre-recorded in the second

the cso in the replica studio is really terrible. i haven't seen the itv nc for a while, but when i was flicking around the fringing around the outline of the presenters looks really poor. there is no depth to it at all. i thought the cso studio looked quiet impressive when i first saw it, but the more you look at it, the cheaper it looks.

Yeah, they displayed the stupid Powergen Add, then it went to the An ITN Production RTS News Programme of the Year screen for a second and then to the ITV1 logo and they played some music which kept stopping and then restarting...

After seeing Bill Neely on the Lunchtime News yesterday, and with knowing what to do [unlike Joyce Ohajah, who I agree she is not really suitable for a full-time role on a news channel - I gather she is no longer Transport Correspondent as well] and not fluffing his lines, looking at the right camera etc. must make him a prominent newscaster, who, given the chance, might be better than Trevor if Bill becomes permenant newsreader for the 12.30 or the 10.30.

And, really, isn't it about time ITN changed their end caption. It's been blue for at least 11 years!

That's presuming that Bill would want to give up his globetrotting role to become studio-bound.

Why should they change it? I like it - the plain blue endcap is simple and effective.
