Sky probably used a profanity delay in case Ozzy or Sharon said something unbroadcastable.
Indeed so...
Media Monkey posted:
The prospect of Ozzy Osbourne live and unleashed was clearly a bit too much for Sky News. A BBC mole emails Monkey to say Sky's "live" coverage of Ozzy and Sharon's fantastically entertaining press conference to appeal for their stolen jewels was on a 20-second time delay. Cowards.
ITV let it go out complete with assorted profanities.
The timing is certainly suspect, but how on earth do you know whether it was propaganda or not? The problem is that if it was propaganda peddled by Downing Street then it certainly is "less serious news" and almost more of an observation than fact. If it wasn't propaganda and a genuine threat or attack attempt has been thwarted then it's not just "serious news", it's a very major story indeed.
I thought the 10.30 was really good last night and they were totally right to lead on the story. As for the question of timing i think they chose to run it last night because they knew they would be getting decent ratings after they had a good lead in. I was totally expecting them to have some sort of exclusive last night which they had been sitting on, and i dont think there is anything wrong with that really. after all it is a bit boring that ITV, sky and the BBC tend to run exactly the same stories in practically the same running order.
ITV-1 News At 10.30 appears to be carrying a lead story no-one else is carrying about a plot to fly planes into Canary Wharf being thwarted. I can't find this item on the BBC News pages and I feel sure it has already been mentioned some time ago. Does this not degrade the credibility of ITV News?
If the BBC had broke this story on the 10pm News or Newsnight would you have made these comments - I think not.
Oh grow up. When did he show any evidence of being biased against any news organisation?
The bias came from the suggestion of a story not appearing on the BBC website being degrading to ITV News.
Moving on, is there any more info yet about when the ITV News Channel will return to Freeview (From my point of view, in the Midlands and North West regions!)
It seems that the Prime Minister is not a fan of the 'theatre for news'...
The Guardian's Backbencher email newsletter posted:
While the Queen is being kept away from I'm a Celebrity for her own
good, the Backbencher was pleased to discover that Tony Blair is
keeping up with the latest in tabloid telly. Sitting down to an
interview with ITV's political editor, Nick Robinson, in Washington
recently, the prime minister asked: "What's happened to the 6.30 ITV
news?" Bemused, Mr Robinson mumbled something about the ratings being
up. Pulling one of his faces, the PM replied: "No, I mean WHAT's
happened to it?" Not a fan of its new format, then.

Also not an avid viewer if he's only just recently caught it for the first time since February!
Unless he means the disapearance of Mary!
It's nice to see Katie Derham on the 10:30 instead of Mark Austin (for a second time in the day).
The thing with ITV News at the moment is that they have a mass of excellent presenters. Many of whom they don't want to put only onto the News Channel, yet they have no ITV Bulletins to put them on either.
Also it's the first time that I've noticed ITV News' Africa Correspondant tonight, didn't even know that they had one. They don't use him much!
Plus has the 10:30 had an advert break tonight, or have I missed it?
If not is it due to getting enough revenue from Corrie?

Well, Katie is pretty much the regular stand-in on the ITV News.
As for the "ITV News' Africa Correspondant" - didn't see the report but with ITV News alot of the time the correspondants title changes from report to report.

Neil Connery succeeded Tim Ewart as Africa Correspondent back in summer 2003.
He is based in Johannesburg, but he is sometimes redeployed to other bureaux - notably to Jerusalem on several occasions and to Moscow during the Beslan crisis.
He's done several undercover reports from Zimbabwe like tonight's one since he's been in the job.
It's a shame that the Moscow bureau doesn't have a dedicated correspondent, as they could do with someone in Kiev at the moment. Maybe Bill Neely or someone is on the way.

I was quite impressed with Neil Connery's report from Zimbabwe. Usually ITV News doesnt show reports of this callibre but it was a proper investigative report recorded without the SA authorities finding out. England shouldnt play cricket over there regardless of whether the press are allowed. Surely someone has got to stand up and decide whether they can play or not - ie Sports Minister or even Prime Minister?
PS A very strong 18:30 ITV News today. All decent reports and stories with only one light story at the end concerning the dolphins which was perfectly suitable for a main news bulletin!
I think we need to see some personality from the new presenter now. She is very good at presenting but needs to relax a little and we need to get to know her a bit better!

I laughed at that capture when I saw it.
Speaking of that moving text, does any one elsee find it annoying?
I wouldn't mind if it was designed better, where the either added a programme specific logo to the screen, or had one strip, slightly larger rather than many.

Are ITV News making their programmes widescreen stretch safe? All the shots are so far away from the presenter, and when I crop it on my widescreen TV, I dont miss a thing, only the ticker, and the presenter is always well inside my TV. Thanks ITV news, if you cant go out in widescreen, at least we can stretch it, and its still okay.
