If you read the first post, I didn't know as I hadn't seen it, and was asking and then elaborated on to how it should be used like that for the main ITV News Channel whilst they are rehersing for the programmes in the main studio, instead of simply being used as a green screen for backgrounds to be added on.

I'm sorry for the confussion!

No problems. Confusion over - at least I think it is! I thought it'd been established that they DO use a full 'virtual' version of the main studio when they're busy rehearsing for ITV1 programmes?

Well I wouldn't say it was full. They do like Central News West and have a shot with the background and top of the desk and one where a screen is added, they don't use it for standing presentations though, or from what I've seen.

Amusing c.ock-up at 10 o'clock - Phil Gayle was trailing the Prince WIlliam interview - and whilst he was saying something along the lines of "the future king speaks", David Beckham's face briefly appears on the screen

Nick Clark hasn't been on the News Channel for ages, but he is back today

It is nice to see Angela Rippon again but why does she do weekend mornings and that is it? It would be nice for her to do the Weekend News or News At 10.30 - if she does, the 10.30 then maybe it will get higher viewers, quite possibly.

Also, Bill Neely - after seeing him on the ITV News yesterday - he really is a good newsreader and with his expertise as a newsreader and knowing what he is doing [unlike Lucy Alexander!] and could easily rival Mark Austin for the 10.30 news job.

Finally, maybe the viewership will go up to watch the News At 10.30 [there really should be a proper name to this!] for a few weeks when 'I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here! " comes on, like it did last time.

There's a new phone graphic. The blue is certainly an improvement on the rather insipid yellow of the previous version.

Does anyone remember what ITN and/or ITV did for the Millennium celebrations?
I remember watching the BBC's 2000 Today telethon and seeing Michael Buerk doing the last ever 20th Century BBC news bulletin AND the first ever 21st Century bulletin.
But can anyone remember what ITV/ITN did for the Millennium??

ITV Countdown 2000 from what I remember, was presented from the usual studio, by the usual ITN presenters, with chairs where the desk would be. They had updates throughout the day as the millennium arrived around the world.

I also seem to remember Kirsty Young presented a round-up of the rest of the news from the CSO area that used to be to the right on the old set. The background was basically the same as the rest of the set (though virtually generated of course) and I think they plonked the usual desk over there for her to sit at.

It's possible she doesn't want the main jobs - her programme gives her a bit of control and time to talk about things, rather than just report them - although I do think she shouldn't be completly disregarded as an ITV1 host - even if just for the Lunchtime summaries on ITV1 at the weekend.

I take it nobody was watching the News Channel yesterday when Phil Gayle read out last weeks football results after introducing them as the latest scores ? Unbelievable. And there was no apology either.

Does anyone know any more presenters ITV had for its 2000 celebrations because I know that Gaby "she's on everything" Roslin and Michael Parkinson on the BBC.

Trevor McDonald and Jonathan Dimbleby were in charge in the studio, and I think John Suchet might have been doing some commentary a la David Dimbleby.
