New blood at ITV News Channel

ITV’s rolling news service, the ITV News Channel, has announced three senior appointments.

Ben Rayner, who was news editor at London Tonight and then senior programme editor at the news channel, has been made deputy editor.

Harry Gibson, who was news editor at The Big Breakfast before he became the news channel’s launch programme editor, is now senior programme editor.

Meanwhile Matt Walsh, who was the lead programme editor charged with revamping the channel in February, has been made its assistant editor.

The channel has been revamped technically and editorially.

Yesterday at 7.29am on the NC, ITV News cut into the adverts and went to the President's opponent's partner Edwards or something like that, albeit the picture going from 16:9 and back to normal again.
Now, I thought that will be relevant to this forum because it goes to show the News Channel CAN actually drop adverts in the middle of them.

'Live with John Nicolson' actually continued right through to midday today, albeit with the final 15 minutes in the second studio.

I hope this becomes a regular thing, as 11.45 is such an odd time to end a programme.

Not to mention the fact that the trails for the show advertise it as 10-12

I presume in these instances, that the live is part of the CSO in the 2nd studio that they cut to early. It's nice how they've created a second CSO studio, I presume this is the old main studio.

Question is, why can't they use this studio for the ITV News Channel when they need to reherse in the main studio. Surely if they had a second desk, the studio works the same, except for the fact that everywhere is green rather than just the wall, and that you can't see it. But this may be a selling point as they could have better graphics.

They could just CSO a graphic of the main set ontop onto the set, and then let everything do it's work.

Er, isn't that exactly how they do do it?

Well, considering they all work there already, and are each just moving up a small rung, it's hardly new blood, is it!

Yes, I wondered about that too!

The ITV News Channel is now trailing a special programme about the Arafat crisis at 7pm, with an exclusive recently recorded interview with him, and studio guests.

I thought that they just used a green screen to CSO, rather than using the other Virtual Studio.

What's the difference? I thought we knew they had a second desk because you can often see it in shot when they are coming from the CSO.

Oh yeah. Good point. Sorry.

The point I was making was that they could use the second virtual reality set as they do the main set to do stand up presentations, and could perhaps turn the 4-7 slot into something special.

Indeed. Or the 7-10.30 slot, right?
