as most of the country with freeview can no longer get the itv news channel why can't they put a live feed on the itv news website like they did when the iraq war was taking place.

There was a brief market update on tonights news at 10:30. This could be something new as it is monday and they usually change things at the start of the week. it was shown on the news wall.

Engineering work disrupts ITV News Channel - Media Guardian

Incidentally, I have noticed recently that the News Channel no longer seems to use GMTV correspondents on the breakfast programme - I wonder why they have stopped doing that?

You only need to register once and then you don't need to sign in each time you visit and it is free too.

Though the article is just saying what we know already.

No commercial break as well - and Trevor introduced the show by cartwheeling down the news catwalk.

OK, I made the last bit up! Twisted Evil

My thoughts about the Freeview situation:

I, like alot of Freeview viewers, am new to digital television, so I do find the (vaguely) familar faces of ITV News more appealing than the relative unknowns of Sky News and generally BBC News 24.

I don't know what the statistics are, but I very very rarely tune into any news channel during the evening - most of the time it's rolling news during the day that catches my eye, and similarly, I can't see ITV3 attracting a significant audience during the day.

Therefore, my simple suggestion is that for the first few months on Freeview, ITV News and ITV3 timeshare, with ITV News on air from 5.30am before ITV3 takes over at 7pm (or even 6pm to co-incide with the ITV1 News hour).

Then, early next year when the work is done, the two channels can both become 24 hr stations again - co-inciding with a possible launch of ITV3 on Sky.

Also, with regional programming getting in the way of inovative new programmes on ITV1 like The Planets Funniest Animals, I don't think anyone would be surprised to see the ITV News Channel go regional in the future.

It would kind of make more sense - even if ITV1 keep the 6pm bulletin, having full 30 min regional news bulletins after the Lunchtime News and 10.30pm bulletin (which themselves could become full 30 min national bulletins) would be an excellent idea for a post-analogue switch off ITV, along with regular updates throughout the day.

And out of all ITV's new stations, general regional programming - even if it's just an hour of week - would be most at home on ITV3.

Yes, it seems it is a new piece, not just a one-off -- it was included during Tuesday's bulletin as well. On the subject of last night, was there really any need for a commercial break? There was one advert! It can't have lasted more than 15 seconds!

I think they should ditch the add break altogether on the News at 10.30. Have 20 minutes news, 3 minutes sport, 5 minutes regional and then papers, and close. It would do a lot better without going for a break - it could almost cover another story in the time a break takes.

I like the new market report, but they could have at least covered currency exchange rates too !!!

Why have a 35 second break anyway?

How much does it cost to advertise, or putting it another way. How much money would ITV/each region get for showing one advert in the middle of the 10:30?
