Nina Hossain and Mark Austin looked pained to announce the closure of the News Channel on the Evening News tonight, and there was no link to Evening News Extra either.

Dear dear me.

Yeah, no reference at all towards the NC tonight, obviously apart from the article on it. I don't understand why the ITVNC is being ignored on ITV1 already; surely losing the few viewers it has now due to lack of promotion will make the last few days of the Channel ever more painful?

Wonder if Trevor will make any mention of it a little later on.

I seriously can't see why they are even bothering to keep it going after Christmas. There's just no point.

Because there's people's jobs involved here?

If the company that you worked at was closing down, you'd expect some notice and not to be told to leave the premises immediately!

Hmm, I still think it would be more logical to call it a day this Christmas so they don't get back into a doomed routine in the new year.

And Oh dear, start of the News at 10.30 screwed up just after Regional headline. Rolling Eyes No mention of the closure in the headlines, however this didn't happen in the Evening News so it probably will still get a short mention.

Was 'Evening News Extra' on tonight, or have they stopped bothering about that now?

That's what I was wondering. The evening news presenters never do Evening News Extra anymore and it almost seems as though the channel is being abandoned already. Sorry, getting hysterical image of Owen Thomas chaining himself to the newsdesk... Very Happy

And the fact that the that the NC's disappearence was most likely to coincide with ITV News' tweaked look - but of course, the job loss factor would be the main sticking point for the channel to be prolonged until January.

Do we think Owen Thomas may go back to doing the ITV Morning News.

I suppose he could rotate with Rachel McTavish because there wouldn't be loads of miscellaneous freelancers about to do the other week like there is now

[It also seems they've stopped selling ads on the NC - whenever i've turned the last few days, i've seen more trails than adverts, and the ads they do have are insurance/charity ones which look straight out of the 1980s.

Yes, I've seen some breaks with no ads at all, just the same few trails.

I see that Yes Car Credit has gone bust - their ads used to be in almost every break on the NC.

Well yes, they're hardly going o humiliate themselves in thei own headline sequence! However, it is news, so a short snippet is to be expected.

Liked the pun on today's evening news. As tragic as what happened in the sea was... Chris SHIP was there reporting on the boating accident.

It's usually Dan RIVERS who reports on any flooding as well.

I raised this earlier in a seperate thread, but the NUJ aren't happy with the decision so perhaps we may see some strike action at ITN.

They also sent Chris Ship to cover that story about the Mary Rose a month or two back.

Not sure if anything should be read into it, but I've just been watching the ITV NC and they seem to have dropped the yellow story graphic. The LIVE graphic has been changed too - it used to go all the way down to the clock, now it just floats mid-air.
