Live with John Nicolson is using some interesting backgrounds this morning.

Any descriptions/captures?

Sorry, no captures. When they were discussing the Cameron leadership they had a huge image of westminster and the tsunami topic had images of the diaster taking up most of the newswall. It was really effective. Why on earth is Geraint presenting, he's just awful. He shows just how difficult newsreading is for the professionals, and those who seem to do it well effortlessly like Owen Thomas or Felicity seem beyond talented IMO. Or maybe Geraint is just particularly terrible, who knows?

It sounds like something that they should start doing more of, using the whole newswall.

I've never understood why most images don't fill the wall, and have the squares top and bottom.
Another point to add, I do like the titles used as a background as they seem to be doing on the one camera headlines.

From the 15 minutes or so I saw this evening, he wasn't that bad. Reasonably average compared with some presenters on the NC, I would say!

Well, from Geraint presenting to reporting, and it appears he had his first assignment in his new position today - reporting from the draw in Leipzig, interviewing Sven Goran-Eriksson.

He is a really good reporter and should stick to it. Has he been on the news channel today?

ITV running 25 minutes behind schedule tonight due to "The Big Fight Live" - tonight's news is now at 11.35pm.

ITV makes no sense sometimes.

This breaking news about the fire - the BBC extended Breakfast on BBC One to 9am (while details were emerging) but thusfar has largely left it at that. The news bulletins in Sunday AM were extended, but no great fanfare. Junctions on both BBC One and Two at 10am, but no news special or no news update. 30 second update at 11am. Just the normal news bulletin at 12pm, I'd expect.

This is perhaps a quite justified response: after all, it's just a big fire with few casualties. Looks scary but not the world's biggest news

ITV1, on the other hand. Consider post 9:25am, when ITV control starts proper. Short news bulletin at 9:25, then 15 minute programme at 10:25, and a halfhour news special scheduled for 12:05! Compared to BBC One this is massive coverage on ITV1, where the balance is usually the other way. And this from a broadcaster that at the same time is seriously considering scrapping its news channel? When they do news specials as numerous as this? ITV really is a strange beast.

(Not suggesting that ITV are doing too much, either - just that it's quite a bit more than BBC One.)

Thanks Dave.

Make no underestaimation, this is big news and it is forming the lead story for many news organisations (although it is Sunday...)

Interestingly tonight it will be Mary Nightingale anchoring from Hemel Hempsted, so don't know where Mark is. Chris Rogers seems to be doing the 3pm hour usually done by the Evening News hosts, but it be surprising if he did the "other news" segment.
