I think it's been mentioned somewhere on here before, but on Sky, not sure about freeview and cable, the adverts on the News Channel seem to be full 16:9 adverts, yet squished into a 4:3 frame.

Yes, it's the same on Freeview, and has been since Tuesday morning.

I I was just wondering who broadcast the adverts, do they broadcast them from the South Bank, the same as the other ITV channels, or are they controlled at Greys Inn Road by ITN?

Until now, the ads have been played out by NTL (Arqiva), as part of the legacy of the ITN News Channel which was co-owned by NTL.

Given the latest cockup, I wonder if the channel's playout has now moved to the South Bank?

And is the channel capable of displaying 16:9 adverts and trailers even if the channel itself is 4:3?

Until now the ads have always been 14:9 in a 4:3 frame.

Interesting. Thanks for that.
It seems interesting that the adverts are 16:9 in a 4:3 frame.

I wonder whether this could be testing, or the first transition to South Bank, or could it be NTL's fault?

As for the channel, if they wanted to, could they broadcast the adverts in 16:9, or will they have to do something to the channel?

Sorry, I feel like a rant. I'm tired of ITV News' regular bashing of doctors, nurses and in general the NHS. Apart from the efforts of those involved on 7/7 when was the last time they praised the thousands of men and women across the country whose input to the medical profession is essential and of top standard?

It's something they've brought across from the US, where there are health stories everynight of the week.

But doesn't this not annoy you? Especially Sue Saville... 'Doctors not doing their jobs properly.'' It makes me really angry... Evil or Very Mad

I think because it's a 'media' story it was higher up than normal! If Ross Kemp hadn't been married to the editor of The Sun it would not have got so much press and tv coverage.

Oh dear. ITV News's coverage of the Wade/Kemp speculation was utter tabloid and embarrassing to watch, especially the "rolling headlines" with added sound effects. Terrible.
