I watch the ITV News Channel as often as I can now. I like them experimenting different things that the viewers don't normally see. Such as mixing the opening titles with different images, making the ending music longer and changing the music going to and from an advert break.

Don't you know what I mean? Like at the end of main ITV1 bulletins like Evening News. Haven't you noticed the ending credits music holds for a few seconds longer than normal?

Yes, Harvey, please don't patronise me. I know exactly what you mean, but it's not particularly noticeable and they probabaly don't even mean to do it.

How am I patronising? I merely asked if you have noticed it!

Ok sorry, it seems I've offended you. It's just a pointless observation.

Right, getting back on track, take a look at these two images:

Do they still have the text behind them to say what the story is? Like " Badly Protected? " Or have they ditched it?

No they just show the 4 squares now and hardly use that shot aswell.

As Josh said they've ditched it in favour of random shots with 4 squares in.

Looks awful IMO, especially on the Evening News where they seem to present most stories looking to the side now!

I'd like to see the style of graphic used in CSO interviews in reports used for the inset shot on the bulletins - with a picture and the 4 squares appearing, with text appearing over the four squares.

Sorry got quite a complicated question. But I'll break it down. Basically, why couldn't Mark Austin appear live on cam from Pakistan on ENE when he'd been on the EN just moments earlier? Why did he have to use a phone? Same applied to other situations. Why does the ITVNC rarely use reporters live on the scene, rather than every now and again. It's so cheap compared to News24, they have reporters on location all the time.

It's probably a cost issue. ITV may not have had their own sat dish in Pakistan (it took the BBC a lot of work and contacts on the ground to get their one in) and the cost of hiring in another dish is very costly and they probably didn't think the outlay was worth it for the News Channel - whereas they would for the main ITV1 bulletins. You'd be surprised how much it costs for sat time - it's not at all cheap.

I disagree, the new shots are a lot better, it gives the studio some much needed depth, as opposed to that rather flat looking shot in the images above.
