Tut tut!!! Can any of you imagine Alistair Burnet hitting Anna Ford over the head with his scripts?? The grand old pair must be totally bemused and saddened by the degeneration of on-screen chivalry these days.

Or Sandy Gall putting a farting cushion on Pamela Armstrong's chair????

I must agree though, I witnessed the pairing (Austin and Barr) for myself, albeit not Friday, but automatically thought that these two were made for each other on screen. Much better than the previous lady, Nina Hossain.

Is she (Felicity Barr) the same lady who used to be the Sportscaster on ITN a few years ago? I don't remember the name, but the face looks familiar.

Does anyone know the name of the National and International News tune? Or the name of the regional news tune?

Maybe just total coincidence (I am posting this everywhere to see the reaction), but all anchors on all channels output this evening are dressed very soberly and the females in black - Raworth, Nightingale and Burley all in Obit style clothing, and co presenters all in very dark suits too. Andrew Wilson on Sky was even wearing a black tie alongside Burley.

Do they know something that we don't?

Probably incase Geoge Best died, they had James Mates at the hospital, and he is the Senior Correspondent aint he?

Anna Botting on Sky and Kirsty Young on Five are both in black too. This is bizarre.

I know he was well-loved - at least in his day - but can't really see them all going into obit dress for Best. Usually only a VERY senior politician or Royal would warrant that, though there's nobody partcularly ill even.
