Not your everyday pair up on the News Channel. Mark Austin and Lucy Alexander. Sorry, I just thought it was strange to see. They must be saving Mary (who would normally do this slot) for the Evening News.

I can't believe the amount of fuss that ITV are making over a news presenter returning from maternity leave!

It seems they want to reveal her at 18:30 rather than doing the 15:00 hour on the ITV News Channel.

PS Mark Austin has been busy today. He is getting really involved in the hurrican story. There is supposed to be a very harrowing report on tonight's evening news.

And it's only Mary Nightingale coming back. And I BET, that on tonight's EN, there isn't one mention about her return, or any comment from Austin. Nina should stay on the EN, it's been said it's down to her and Mark that the Evening News has become so popular over the last year.

Are you honestly suggesting that Nina Hossain is a better anchor than Mary Nightingale? Mary is far more flexible, and could be used across a whole selection of different output. (elections, obits, events......)

I just cannot see Nina being able to do the same, to be honest. Doesn't she stumble and flop her way through breaking news still, or has she significantly imrpoved since she joined the channel?

Please don't anyone take this personally - I am just airing my opinion. Sorry if anyone is offended by it.

Quite the opposite James. I do find her slightly on the "inexperienced" side of things. The Lunchtime news often becomes comically and not merly seeing the presenters try to grab every available opportunity to speak... She's OK. But shes not brillaint and certainly shouldn't be fronting a national bulletin IMO.

James, you do realise this is the second time in a week that I've agreed with you? So this poses one question.

Where's my money...

Don't worry I accept your opinion. Mary can handle a wider range of stories etc, but I find her flat. And, yes I was suggesting Nina is a better anchor, but time will tell.

I wonder if the traditional "switching" of main anchor will return tonight; i.e Mark leads on Monday, followed by Mary on Tuesday etc.

Why was it ditched when Nina coanchored?

I suppose because she was new, and Mark was the only big name so to speak.

So I wonder if they'll give darling Mary the lead tonight, or play it safe and stick with Mark.

Well Mary led the 'Coming up' regional segment, so will she lead at 6.30? Who knows...
