I asked a question about the Morning News a little earlier in the thread, but it got lost amidst the discussion about Owen Thomas. I caught the ITV Morning News today for the first time in about a year, and noticed that they no longer do a proper opening headline sequence. Does anyone know when they scrapped it? They now just play the sting they use for Live with Alastair Stewart, and don't even read any headlines over the music bed.
JO
Is it the same one they use for Jon Nicolson and Angela Rippom (the shows in which presenters have their name titled alongside the show)?

They've always had trouble with the headlines for the Morning News. It always used to be simply an issue of staffing in the gallery - they literally didn't have enough hands to press enough buttons. I don't know why they've abandoned the sequence altogether - perhaps they've laid some positions off in the early morning?
ST
As someone who's always up at that time of day and at work keeping an eye on the news channels (I hasten to add for work, not for pleasure...), it varies day by day - seems to be depending on presenter.
Rachel McTavish (by far the best of the lot - why is she still on the morning news!?) almost always uses a headline sequence, with the rest it's pretty hit and miss - mostly miss.

Ah, that's interesting. This morning it was someone called Isha Sesay - I don't recall seeing her before, but I have this feeling that I have! Does anyone know where else she has worked?
The last time I watched the ITV Morning News, Rachel McTavish presented it, and there was a proper headline sequence. It's strange that it depends upon the presenter as to whether there are headlines or not.
Who else regularly does the Morning News, Steve?

Its debatable what is more high profile, random News Channel shifts or the ITV Morning News. She'll get more viewers on ITV1

Sky Sports News.
Recently it's been alternating weekly between Rachel McTavish and Isha Sesay.
The likes of Sian Jones and Nazanine Moshiri also appear from time to time. Chris Ship has also presented in recent months.

This morning, Isha introduced herself, and in came flying a huge name aston, which I've never seen before.
Londoner - thanks for that. I knew I'd seen her somewhere. It will have been in passing while someone's had the Sky Sports News channel on.

Isha Sesay is the new Sharon Grey then. Does Isha introduce herself at the top or just launch into the first story like certain poor morning news presenters did

Back to Morning News and the wonderful Owen Thomas. Those were the days. I used to tune him because of his presentation, but can't be bothered any more. I'm glad he's always on the News Channel, but I miss him on the Morning News. Someone said before he was freelance, but how can that be? He's on every day, does the london news and doesn't seem to work anywhere else.

Freelance is a much misunderstood term on this forum.
One dictionary offers this definition:
A person who sells services to employers without a long-term commitment to any of them.
I'm not sure that quite sums it up entirely accurately, as you can be a freelance under contract for a considerable time.
You can be a freelance and have one employer or 20.
You can be under contract for an extended period, or hired on a casual basis to do shifts here and there.
Most presenters are freelance, in the sense that they are not employed as permanent salaried staff, but under contract to present a certain programme for a certain time or work a number of shifts over a given time.
Senior presenters will be under an exclusive contract which says that they can't work for rival companies/channels.
