ITV News is by quite a way the hottest topic on the forum. Surely an ITV News Channel thread could only provide convenience. A BBC News and BBC News24 thread has worked side by side, so why can't a NC one? If something isto report from ITV 1 News, then it goes in the original thread, if it's from the NC, then it goes there. Now, how can that cause confusion and arguments?

What's wrong with everyone? A new ITV NC thread is pointless. There's nothing wrong with this thread, and there's so much overlap between the network news and the NC that it will just lead to arguments about whether things are in the 'right' thread or not.
Yes, there's been a flurry of messages about the NC today, but many weeks the existing thread only grows by 2 or 3 pages.
As for this thread being 'bulky', there's really little difference in navigation whether a page has 5 or 555 pages.
The heat has obviously addled everyone's brains.

er...the ITV News.
If you notice, most ITV News programmes have their own names, i.e. "Lunchtime News", "Evening News". "me_for_nina" was merely asking whether today's bulletins have any special names.
To answer the question, it seems the ITV1 EPG just states "ITV News" for the bulletins today, on the NC has the next national bulletin down as "Evening News".

What do they call the shortened bulletins on bank holidays? Anything unusual?

That seems fairly logical to me. The ITV NC is a separate channel, so I don't see why it shouldn't have its own thread. As you said, we've done it with BBC News and News 24 for years.

Though the Weekend News brand isn't used on screen, it does appear in listings magazines, and presenters refer to it as such verbally.

Actually, there's also the "ITV Morning News" and the "ITV Weekend News"...so that constitutes every main bulletin ITN produce per week!

For some reason the Morning News is still listed as the Early Morning News in many listings, despite the 'Early' designation having been abandoned some years ago.

Yeah, that's rather strange, isn't it? I've noticed that the ITV1 announcer also introduces it as the "Early Morning News". It hasn't been officially called that since the pre-1999 re-launch days, or even earlier, has it?

Has it ever been called that. All clips that I've downloaded from websites, including one from 1998 all have it as 'ITN/ITV Morning News'
Plus, refering to something mentioned earlier, the Friday 10.30 bulletin has the same standing as the rest of the week, despite some listings calling it the ITV Weekend News. This hasn't been the case since the relaunch
