Owen must have moved very quickly to get from the London Today studio at 1.57ish to Studio 2 in the basement in time for the News Channel TOTH at 2 o'clock. Either someone was holding the lift for him or he must have sprinted down the stairs!

OWAN - He also worked an ITN namecheck in when he wondered why anyone would want to be in the ITN basement when they could be at the Notting Hill Carnival.

Owen Thomas is on The ITV NC today and he is very good.
I liked the way he said, "we will keep dropping into our sister channel MSNBC for more live coverage and keeping you uptodate with the information coming into us at ITN providing you with the most uptodate coverage, here, on the ITV NC."

I thought the way he got ITN into it all was acceptable and great to hear people (and presenters) still mention it.

What was he referring to?

Hurricane Katrina in the US.

I've been watching quite a lot of the ITV NC recently, and I've been very impressed by Owen Thomas - he's an excellent presenter. Shame he doesn't appear on ITV1.

I caught the ITV Morning News today, a year since I last saw it. When did they ditch the opening headlines sequence? They now just play the sting used for Live with Alastair Stewart, and go straight into the first story. A proper introduction would be nicer.

Would London Today have been pre-recorded so as to allow Owen to prepare for his NC shift at 14.00? If LT finished at 13.57, and he was on the NC at 14.00, then surely LT couldn't have been live? It would take longer than 3 minutes to take his mic and earpiece off, get down to the basement and put all the equipment back on.

It's bank holiday, it's likely they aren't too fussed about recording a short bulletin. I've noticed how much Owen enjoys introducing himself, not many of the other presenters seem to do this.

Fantastic presenter.. Just said after coverage from MSNBC of the hurricane, ''that's why I stopped being a reporter and became a presenter!''

Yes, that comment made me laugh aswell. On news channels you should be able to inject some of your own personality into proceedings - just like Owen.

I wonder how else he is going to keep us entertained on this Bank Holiday Monday?

LOL @ the comments on that thread! Smile

Owen may not be used on ITV1 bulletins as he is only a freelance presenter rather than a specific ITV1 presenter? Therefore Owen, and others (like Chris Rogers and that black presenter from Big Breakfast) are used on a freelance basis to fill the news channel schedule?

Shocked Phil Gayle! I must say,he does seem a little desperate, working days when other people really dont want to work such as Christmas Day and today (Bank Hloiday). Owen's obviously not so up to date with today's music.. Kanye West, looking very bemused, he said! Very amusing.

Chris did a weekend bulletin a while back. Phil (so I heard) has gone to work in Austrailia for a year. Owen said, Kan(pause)yey West (rolls his eyes).
