For anyone who wants to know the ITV News Channel will be celebrating their 2nd Birthday at 5.30am tomorrow.

It doesn't feel like the same NC as we had two years ago, the NC we have now is far better.

It may be better than before but I personally think its a disgrace that a channel with the balls to tell us that it :

A) Breaks news for Britian; couldn't run LIVE by-election coverage and resuslt!

And B) Whose ambition is to overtake BBC News 24 (DIDN'T MANION SAY SOMETHING LIKE THIS AT LAUNCH OF NEW ON-AIR LOOK) couldn't provide live coverage and analysis of a debate which will play a part in electing the most powerful man in the world.

The ITV News channel is still shocking, they fill air time with chats with weather presenters and at certian times of the day their top of the hour is a round up of showbiz stories and cut downs of 'London Tonight' entertainment packages. This is no dis-credit to I'm sure a hard working team on the channel but this will NEVER overtake Sky or the BBC who run a far superior service 24 hours a day.

To be honest, I like the ITV News Channel being like that. If every news channel ran with exactly the same things simultaneously, then life would become very boring. It's sometimes nice that there's a channel you can flick to which is carrying something different than the other two.

I hear what you're saying and I thought about that myself before posting but the ITV News channel can't have that excuse made for them every time they mis something like this because of staffing and funding. YES - its nice that they run news when the others are on events like this, but they force a big flying slogan in our face every fifteen minutes that says 'Breaking News For Britian' so when a key by-election takes place that could offer important projections to the next general election the channel whose core objective is to 'Break News For Britian' should surley be there to cover it.

They run no results and no coverage, instead running a pre-recorded news belt. And this is my point - it'll never be a real match to the market leaders.

Yes, they've been doing a few on location programmes recently, haven't they? Liverpool, Brighton and now Downing Street. I like it -- it seems to add some "urgency" to the programme.

Having been away for a couple of weeks I've missed Liverpool and Brighton, but I do like the way that when there is an OB they always have an establishing shot showing the lights and the crew, and another wide shot at the end.

The Brighton programme confirmed that ITV News do pre-record their intro sequences. Straight after the clock, Mark was standing on the beach with fairly light skies behind him. After the headlines, it was dark behind him. It certainly didn't go dark that quickly!

On the Liverpool one, the closing shot across the Mersey was fantastic.

I wonder what's happened to Joyce Ohajah - she's been away from London Tonight and the News Channel for ages.

She was listed in the Radio Times as the presenter of this weekend's ITV1 bulletins, but it seems to be Felicity Barr instead.

Felicity Barr hosting the Weekend News - again. In my mind, Felicity is annoying with her snobbish attitude [I think so, anyway]. I'm starting to like Sasha Herriman more.

I think Felicity is great - she is one of those excellent all-round presenters who can turn their hand to anything - news and sport, serious stories and lighter stories.

I thinhk Felicity is fab too. I think the lineup on News channel is far superior to the others. They all have much more personality, certainly than that of News 24. Another thing - Owen Thomas has now been on since this morning... and his voice is going! Every time I tune in he's on... Not that i'm complaining... he's great with serious or light stories like Felicity and especially when he's copresenting. But surely he's due a day off!

I cant really stand Owen Thomas. I just dont like the way he can go from all bubbley to a somber attitude. Like on london tonight (10:30) when he presentes it:

"HELLO IM OWEN THOMAS AND THIS IS LONDON TONIGHT" then
"a man has been killed in london today"

I just hate that!!
No, offence owen!!

My vote goes to Felicity too. She is good either single heading a bulletin or co-presenting. Some of her interaction with Steve Scott or Owen Thomas is brilliant but she can be serious when the need arises.

I don't want to sound as a grumpy old man but there is Owen Thomas and Phil Gayle overkill. I might annoy some people with what I think but there are other people ITV News can have - how about Adrian Britton, Lloyd Bracey, Bill Neely, James Mates etc. and stop using Thomas and Gayle!!
