BBC World have in the past shown recorded news bulletins.
BBC News 24 usually has one prsenter from about 1 in the morning till 5- if they don't show a repeat how is that presenter to take a break that they are legally entitled to unless they use a lot of fillers!
And who in their right mind is bothered whether the news channel they are watching is live!
Some mornings I don't get home till 2 I am not bothered whether I watch a recorded bulletin or some boring old person that would rather be on air for hours on end

Between 1am and 5am BBC News 24 shows BBC World bulletins Live through the night. Instead of the usual hour long News 24 bulletin, there are half hour BBC World bulletins, with a recorded programme in the second half of the hour. Recorded news programmes are only shown if they are unable to broadcast from the studio, e.g. Power cut or Maintenance.

I know N24 often repeat their bulletins - I have seen so in the past few nights in fact.

Utter rubbish! Unless in exceptional circumstances (such as studio maintainance) News 24 NEVER repeat bulletins throughout the night. As has been said, every bulletin is live because it goes out on BBC World. Maybe the running orders are exactly the same in each hour, but maybe thats been because there hasnt been any reason to update reports. The only recorded news bulletin is ABC World News Tonight shown at 01.30, which is always flagged as being recorded.

Therefore, ITV News show over 6hrs of recorded programming a day! The criticism they recieve is totally justified and is just one of the reasons the channel lacks any credibilty behind Sky and News 24!

Well that's a very selective viewpoint, and not fully reflective of the whole schedule is it ? News 24 cannot either claim to be a wholly 24 hour rolling news channel with pre-recorded non-news related content throughout the night and moreso at weekends.

Word News Tonight, an American news programme get's shown twice during the night, 1.30am & 3.30am then there's HARDtalk and HARDtalk Extra during the week.

And then there is weekends on News 24. Extra Time, Fast Track, Talking Movies, Click online are all repeated throughout the day, some of these 3 times. Between 7am - 11pm on a Saturday you get 4 hours of pre-recorded non news related programmes on News 24 and it's a similar story on Sunday.

As far as I am aware the ITV News Channel is live from 7am - 11pm at weekends.

I never said that News24 was a completly live 24hr News channel, but as a percentage of the total week, it shows a hell of a lot less recorded programming than ITV News. Comparing a weekend to a weekday isnt very fair either - yes, ITV news probably is live more than N24 on Saturdays and Sundays, but those are days when very little news breaks, and if it does, the recorded feature programmes are usually taken off air or a strap is put on screen. Id also argue there is a difference in repeating a feature programme and repeating recorded bulletins over and over again. Both channels have their faults, and in no way is N24 perfect but ITV News is much worse -at least with N24 you get at least a full half hour of live news on the hour every hour, every day (except Sundays at 11am due to Dateline London).

By the same logic, surely 'very little news breaks' overnight as well?

Looking at your eralier posts on this thread, it's clear you don't really like ITV News in any case.

The whole point is though, that if warranted, N24 will break away from its recorded programming to continue with rolling news, whereas ITV News rarely do that (such as the events in Egypt a couple of weeks ago).

And yes, I dont like ITV News at all. Personalyy, I find its presentation tacky and brain numbing but in posting here I was just correcting what the person said earlier in the thread which was wrong. Just because I dont like it doesnt mean I cant form an opinion.

Speaking of prerecordings, why do ITV prerecord their weathercasts? I know Calendar in my region do, is this the case in the other regions? If ITV did live weather i think it would provide more of a connection between the newsreaders and the weatherpeople, like on News24, the newsreaders can have a chuckle or two with the weatherpeople via the live feed.

I also don't understand this, especially as they're located within the same building. Even if they just used live weather presenters during 7-10 and 4-5:30, it would be something better than what they have now.

Technically they could actually do the weather from the ITV News studio as they have a rear projection so that they can see what is there.

Perhaps many of the ITV weather presenters just aren't good enough to be able to cope with doing it live (not all, I'm sure...)

or maybe it's just an unneccessary waste of money? why should they spend so much money preparing and showing live forecasts merely for the sake of a bit of banter? it's a news channel, not a light entertainment channel.

Out of curiosity, why do ITV News run the same bulletin between 2300 & 0100, then repeat an earlier 2230 bulletin?

(that's how the previous post read to me!)
