Is not Nick Owen wasted now with the dual presenting on the Lunchtime News? It used to be his own, he personalized the programme, now he has lost his statement and seems to be put off.

The other argument however is that Katie thoroughly deserves a place on Network News.

Nick Owen doesn't suit the new Lunchtime News, but Katie and Alastair were rather good, so I'd move Nick to the NC afternoons to do a Live with... style show so that Nick can put his own personality on procedings.

Then again though, I think it would also be a crime not to have Nick on Network as well!

Maybe he could have a Jonathan Dimbleby style show on Saturdays... Live with Nick Owen, sometime at lunchtime, which would include a News Summary, Regional News & Weather.

Or perhaps...

Lunchtime News
The Lunchtime News would be cut down to 45 minutes from 12.30 to 1.15, with the regions following afterwards, it would also be dual anchored:
Steve Scott
Bill Neely (cover)
Nina Hussein
Katie Derham (cover)

Evening News
The Evening News would stay at 6.30 to 7.00, but would only have one presenter:
Nick Owen
Mark Austin (cover)

News at Ten Thirty
The 10.30 would stay the same and have one presenter:
Mark Austin
James Mates (cover)

Why do people like Steve Scott?

because in a lot of peoples opinions, including mine, he is a very good newsreader.

I don't like the idea of the LN being dual anchored but the EN not - if anything, I think it should be the other way round, as before; however, I think both should remain with the two.

yes i realise that, which is why I thought I'd ask. I personally find him slightly smug and insincere in his delivery myself.

Fair enough; I would find your comment appropriate to Trev as well, he is far too overrated.

Personally, I think Nick Owen should replace Big T when he goes.

I think Alastair and Katie are a good pairing for the Lunchtime News. And Mark and Mary on the Evening as usual.

The problem is, ITV have a surplus of presenters. There is Nina, Andrea, Felicity, Shiulie, Steve, James and Bill, who are all just as deserving to be on mainstream ITV, and not just the NC.

Well, Shiulie, Bill and James aren't really part of the surplus as such; reporting is their priority. However, the weekend news is a bit messed around, what with either Andrea, Steve, Felicity (and I suppose occasionaly Bill and James) reading the news each Saturday and Sunday, and then somebody else the weekend after (with the exception of Shiulie for the past fortnight) - so much for Andrea being a 'permanent'; wonder who's anchoring tomorrow?!!
