Angela used the studio to full use this morning - loads of interviews and also used the theatre of news as an art gallery. There was a photographer (called Cambridge!!!!!) who was showcasing his photos on the newswall where they both happily walked along the wall 'looking' at each photo and when the viewer saw the close-up of each photo you could see Angela and Cambridge quickly change to view the photo in a monitor rather than the faint image on the newswall. Laughing

There was also loads of shots of Angela's great legs aswell!

Theres just something very special about Angelas show - the programme get's it's content just about right and Angela is always on form. I know people say that the presenters don't matter but Angela takes the news channel to another level. I'd love to see a return of Julia Somerville, as with Alasdair Stewert these 'classic' presenters give the channel the gravity it unfortunately lacks at other times of the day. Any other viable presenters that could return to itv/itn.... i was always a big fan of Alison Bell... maybe not the best choice for itv news!

Also I hope Lynda is on this weekend - I think she's really nice - well anyones better than Miss and Mr shoutalot!

One more comment - I think the News Network is a very good programme - I think it should be on at 9.30am too and wouldn't it look a lot better if they used the regional news titles - surely this could be easily reworked...?

So that concludes my itvnc observations and thoughts!

!

With this I think they should try and bring together 'UK Today' and 'ITV News Network' under one name as its really the same sort of thing. I'd go with the name UK Today myself as the other one isn't immediately obvious what its about.
Regional titles should be used and (more) live links to the regions introduced in the 8.30pm show. The 3.20pm show should also have a sting before it and be made into a more distinct slot rather than just an item to rush past. More than 3 regions should also feature, with full reports and it should run for the full 3.15-3.30pm slot. They should also do the same thing between 11.45am and 12noon

Also I think that maybe Live with Angela Rippon and Live with Alastair Stewart should get special opening titles because at the moment they are identical to Live with Phil Gayle!

Interestingly, ITV Morning News today used CNN's British correspondent in Jamaica for their lead report. CNN often use ITN reports: they led on the Soviet seige with Julian Manyon's reports, so why do ITV not use CNN a little more seeing as they cover the world effectively (and also have an exyensive network of British reporters) ??

In the last month or two ITV used CNN's Matthew Chance in Najaf on a regular basis on main bulletins.

If............. Breakfast with Frost isn't replaced I'll regularly tune to Angela's programme instead. She does a really professional job with what must be limited resources.

How interesting you notice Anglia is ALWAYS doing the bounce! I thought only I thought that.....

"doing the bounce" ????? What does the phrase mean - "doing a bounce"? It sounds quite painful!

The regional bounce... ie throwing to a series of newsrooms... its TV speak love.

Newsman Nick recalls days of print and practical jokes

Sep 10 2004

THIS month ITN's anchorman NICHOLAS OWEN celebrates 40 years in journalism. The Reigate resident began his career on the Surrey Mirror in September 1964 and has many vivid memories of those early days on the newspaper. Although today, he is more involved with major stories such as the Russian school hostage horror - he still looks back fondly on his beginnings at the Surrey Mirror.

A dreadful 'EARLIER' bug currently in use during the replay of the Melvyn Bragg interview.

Why do they always seem to knock up a different version every time they need one?

They ought to have a standard one that could sit above the slug where the LIVE graphic normally sits.

I just saw it at 1pm, okay the Dog wasn't right on screen, but it was very interesting interview , some talk of Blair but then there was a bit of talk about Greg Dyke, also some talk about ITV Plc, though they weren't being biased or anything as Alstair said himself that ITV isn't doing too well at the moment, but Melyvn did say how much he did stick up for ITV and it being a 'wonderful operation'

Though a good interview in all, IMO I think it is stuff like this that makes the NC work, as the other News channels don't have interviews on the same nature or as much as the ITV NC.

Yes you mean this one (complete with lower case 'n'):-

Really awful and yet another addition to the already cluttered screen. Does anyone remember the numerous incarnations used for ITV News EXCLUSIVE during the Sven-gate drama (cant think of her name even now!). On the ITV NC it was the old-style (boxed) itv news logo, then it changed to an ITV news (small n) for the lunchtime news and then only by the ITV evening news had they got a logo anywhere near how it should have been!

So to try and get around this ridiculous situation of changing dogs and cluttering the screen up with more graphic I propose they utilise the ITV News dog in the TOP RIGHT of the screen - why duplicate information???

Here they are:-

This could easily be utilised to use any 'earlier', 'prerecorded', exclusive' wording and lends itself to the branding quite well. I had to use a graduated background to bring out the ITV News lettering and also to give the area some boundary.
