Nicholas Owen is an excellent news presenter. He - IMO - can turn his hand to most types of news stories, whether heavy or light.
He has also been consistent in his delivery ever since he first appeared on our screens. The hardware and software around him may have evolved a hundred times, but good old Nick remains the same pleasant self.
It's quite an interesting shot, above. We don't normally get to see it like that. I saw a similar one a week ago at CNn Atlanta, when Hala Gorani had handed to a break, the camera showed the newsdesk from behind, with masses of cables, computers, printers and even a handbag behind it! (maybe one that Jim Clancy had left behind. ((Joke)) )
CNN Headline News used to do this all the time in the late nineties with Catherine Calloway (caught drinking her milkshake) and the fantastic Lynne Russell too.
SKY News sometimes do this. I remember one occasion with Anna Botting and Chris Roberts.
This is the sort of thing they should use more - it lessens the formality of news presentation, and looks quite interesting to the viewer. I like the experimantal closes thay use on the News at 10.30 - maybe something like that tonight !
We've been over this time and again, but once again the News Channel has been unable to follow through properly on a breaking story late at night.
Even if broadcasting live right through the night doesn't stand up to a cost/benefit analysis, SURELY whoever replaces Crossley-Holland will have to get to grips with the fact that being unable to run live, breaking news just half an hour after the end of the late ITV1 bulletin does the channel no favours at all?
Surely it wouldn't be that hard to rejig shift patterns or whatever to run through to, say, 1am?
It's a shame as they generally do a decent job during the day, but it seems pointless if they can't muster the most basic resources for a late-night story.

i feel your pain, i feel your shame, but you're not to blame
Well they do run through to 1am I was watching at midnight and it was live as it had been updated since the other hours that had Lloyd Bracey presenting
