Someone in the know mentioned previously here that he's gone to work in Australia for a year.

I believe Sky is the same, providing 24hr live news except for half hourly editions of CBS news twice overnight.

Sky do sometimes run repeats overnight - usually when there's maintenance at Osterley.

Point is though they only ever run repeats in exceptional circumstances, maintainance doesnt occur every night. They cant exactly show a live bulletin if there are people using power tools in the background or something! The fact still remains that the ITVNC CHOOSE to screen repeats for no other reason than to save money and until that changes I dare say many people will still not take the channel seriously because no matter how much it has improved in the past year, it is still p*ss poor compared to Sky and N24!

Something seems to be awry with the setup in the second studio - notice the way that the middle walkway appears over the top of the front of the desk:

Hmmm, is the fake background too high behind her? It doesn't look too out of place mind! Maybe it's just the perspective of the camera?

Well to be fair, you get more rolling news on the ITVNC at the weekend than you do on News 24, by the time you counter in all the half hour recorded programmes they show. During the course of the day, News 24 show 5 hours of pre-recorded programmes (then there are the overnight repeats), fine if you're interested in them, but not strictly rolling news. Click on-line might be very interesting, but I've never really understood its relevance on a 24 hour news channel.

It's all subjective, and depends what you want from your news channels really, but between all 3 there is something for everyone.

NICE!

It's things like this that the ITVNC should make public! Not those annoying promotions saying they were first with the Blunkett story etc.

BUT

I would like to see a promotion air on ITV1/2/3 showing that the channel is capable of breaking news and being a serious contender. Showcasing their coverage of Glasgow explosion, Bocastle flooding, Scotland landslide, David Blunkett, Charles and Camilla, Julian Manyon siege etc.

It could be done in such a way that it was tasteful and got the message across that it is a serious news channel. I suppose its pointless promoting it until later in the year when everyone can get the channel on freeview!

Well the ITV1 announcer just trailed Alastair's interview with Robin Cook on the News Channel over the ident into the mid-morning summary.

News Channel breakfast seems to be coming from the second studio this morning (or the big virtual studio with a desk plonked in the middle)

Both Lucy and Andrew are presenting, and they've even managed studio guests, but on chairs rather than benches.
