Ever since the Tsunami, he hasn't had a good, long presenting stretch... he keeps being away, going on OBs. At least they don't make Nick do the Late News as well as the Lunchtime & Evening News... although I think this has happened on occasion?

I suppose Nick Owen gets a pay rise when he works around 16 hours a day, in which he does now and again, to answer your question, John/jdtech.

Please, make it John...

Great to see Andrew Harvey back this morning. Again, he is wasted presenting full-time on the ITV News Channel. I can't warm to Lucy Alexander, or Felicity Barr for that matter.

And, at my house, I have found some old videotapes I have taped circa 1989-1991. They are all morning news bulletins. However, I taped Alastair Stewart on the ITN News Headlines, saying "Happy new year from all of us here at ITN", so I am guessing it must be 1990, because he was Washington Correspondent for the latter part of 1990.
I have also found out why this thread's favourite newsreader, Mark Webster, does not say good morning - even though, he does rarely - I have got different types of the ITN Early Morning News when David Cass, Webster, Brenda Rowe, Sue Carpenter and, amazingly, John Suchet. Mind you for Suchet, he must have stayed up/woken early seeing as it was a huge story.
Anyhow, apart from John, they all did not say "Good Morning" so maybe it was the fashion then and he must have kept his old guard with it.

If anyone thinks Mark Webster is a bad newsreader, anyone seen Nazanine Moshiri. Terrible .

I don't think any of those mentioned Lucy, Felicity or Nazanine are bad newsreaders, how are you with Nina Hossain and Andrea Catherwood, infact Mary Nightingale for that matter, as they are seem to have a sharpness to their voice, they seem very dominatingand seem to emphasise certain words for no reason.

Perhaps it's just all female newsreaders in this country.

Nina Hossain not up to much with me. Andrea Catherwood is generally good. Mary Nightingale is the better of the three.
However, I've noticed women like Lauren Taylor or Shiulie Ghosh don't got a chance on weekday ITV News programmes often. Both pretty good.

Yeah, as are many others.
Though I suppose that's the selling point of the News Channel, especially with people like Andrew Harvey and Alastair Stewart.

Since I've been bored and have been switching between news channels, I have a problem with the news channel, that being that they always seems a bit slow during links in the day, especially when you compare them to Sky News who are live in the newsroom with all of the noise going around.

It's not the end of my problems with it, I don't like how Alastair disapears at 11:45, why can't he move over to the second set until 12:30, or even 12!?

I don't like how they never totally fill the wall with the graphics that they use, they could add anything background they want, and when they do, they always leave a bit of the blue squares all around, I don't understand why though.
They could even add live shots, the News at 10:30 could have a live shot of London, Andrew & Lucy could have the sun rising somewhere.
For breaking news the whole wall could become yellow or red, or whatever colour they want it to be, they're just not adventurous enough, though they are getting better for simple background.

I also don't like the lack of any animation or depth to the graphics, they look old compared to Sky News and BBC News 24, even though both use flat colours, they seem more upto date than ITV News, and don't ask me why.

Though I am liking the channel for its camera shots. I watching yesturday, it was Owen Thomas and Sasha Herriman, and the camera was the jib situated to the right of the desk looking across at both of them, so that you could see through the desk and everything, it was nice as they were just have a cosy chat to the audience and dropping few adlibs in as to what was coming up before the camera went around the front of the desk and pan out. Very nice indeed!

An all-female presenter lineup at Gray's Inn Road today:

Sian Jones, Angela Rippon, Carrie Frais, Lucy Owen, Faye Barker, Hannah Stewart-Jones and Andrea Catherwood.

Now that's what I call Girl Power. Laughing

I caught Faye Barker for the first time yesturday and I like her style, she seems more professional than some of the reporter/presenters that they have on the News Channel at the moment.

I agree, I'm sure Faye used to also present updates on Five News around 98/99?

Did anyone see the start of the ITV Lunchtime News yesterday? After the title end sting, while Nicholas Owen was walking into position, they'd superimposed a rotating 3D globe over the floor/desk. It looked incredibly good. Nicholas stood next to it while he was introducing the story about the Kyoto agreement.

Yes, indeed, they didn't really use it much though! Did anyone else notice he was standing at the right of the newswall, rather than the middle?

I don't know if this will be a credible piece of information but yesterday, on Channel 4 News, Lindsey Hilsum - or however it is spelt - done a report on an untrue suspected attack on Iran's nuclear fields and shown you how the news broke worldwide. It went from Al-Jazeera and then to Owen Thomas on the ITV News Channel.
Apart from Lindsey calling it "ITN News", it was very brief and it must have been Owen Thomas' Channel 4 News debut.
