ITN has selected the Norsat NewsLink™ to enable live and timely broadcasts of breaking news stories from around the world. The terminal will also be used to carry live exchanges between a nightly news anchor, based in a news hot spot, and the studio in London. The Norsat NewsLink™ will be shipped in the first quarter.

Malcolm Smith, Head of Operational Engineering, ITN, explains that a number of factors favored his group's decision to purchase the Norsat NewsLink, "It is 'airline-checkable' and lighter than other options. You can also do live transmissions at broadcast quality. From a timing perspective, it made sense as well. There are now many more high-powered satellites available, and the compression techniques are much improved. We felt comfortable that the Norsat NewsLink could be relied upon for live broadcasts around the world."

The Norsat NewsLink™ terminal is optimized for satellite newsgathering operations and can be deployed on short notice. "It can be checked in as baggage on a commercial airliner and we'll be able to start using it as soon as we arrive at a location. This is a big advantage because can get breaking stories on the air much faster," explains Malcolm Smith.

They've bought a new flyaway kit. Big deal.

What are you on about? "Uneven shots of the studio"?

...we got Andrea Catherwood sitting at the desk and a News at 10.30 ending. I think it looks better like that. I think ITV News should experiment more with endings with more graphics and behind-the-scenes camera shots.

So they should "experiment more with endings" and then get them all the same like the 10.30?

I noticed one of these "uneven shots" of the studio during the end of the Evening News. After the presenter sign-off, something happened in which the camera seemed to pan very slowly then very fast, ending up directly in front of the desk. From what I saw of this, Mark attempted to 'joikingly hug' Nina, walking almost nervously to the desk and not knowing whether to put the lid on his pen or not. There you go.

I wish I could have seen that! Sad But they always cut the end off the programmes online...

Are you referring to the 18:30 bulletin yesterday? As that appeared to finish early and so Mark and Nina performed the usual walk to the desk but then realised there was still time to kill so Mark began to walk off set and then stopped and returned as if someone had told him he they were still on air.

An amusing TOTH at 2.00, when Jonathan Wills and Lucy Owen reading out the top story together.

On previous weekends there has ever only been one 'regional' news presenter on the ITV News Channel - why are there so many this weekend?

PS Hannah looks quite nervous today, so much so, that her cheeks are a dark red colour!

Another camera floating in mid-air on the Weekend News this evening:

And I noticed in the second studio they briefly used a higher camera angle which gave the impression of the newswall being reflected in the top of the desk (it was actually the bottom of the fake newswall that we were seeing, not a reflection - so it wouldn't work with anything other than the generic squares background as the text and images wouldn't be reversed:

An all female presenter line up.

An interesting idea to try out. Pity it was such a dull news day, anyway nice to see some of the regional anchors once again.
I'd like to see Joanne Malin have a go on weekend ITVNC as shes done it before on sky.
