The quicker Scottish and Grampian is taking over by ITV.plc the better!!!

Yeah I agree. I hate the status quo at Scottish/Grampian TV now. I really wish we could be part of the ITV1 network. ITV1 Scottish or ITV1 Grampian would suit me. As long as they keep Scotland Today/North Tonight with the same/similar names.

hmmm, the grass is always greener. if tv forum is still around in a couple of years, no doubt you'll be bleating about the lack of scottishness on itv, and i will be here to remind you of what you wished for.

Well said tvmercia!!!

However SMG need a huge boot up the a**e!!!

At last some people in favour of the ITV brand. Some people will never realise that ITV needs to do this to save money and have a place in the digital world.

i must admit when i first read this post i thought it was very unlikely - ITV giving an extra half hour to news! However there was a small article in the News of the World which seems to confirm it!

Quote:
DERHAM IS BACK
Foxy Katie Derham is being wooed back to ITN with a revamped hour-long lunchtime news show.
The 34 year-old had once been the golden girl of ITV until Mary Nightingale ousted her from the hotseat.
But after a year lost in regional programming, hosting London Tonight, the big boys want her back.
An insider said "Although she and Mary have always denied any rivalry, it must be satisfying to know that she hasn't lost the battle after all."

Now i know its the News of the World but they are usually quite accurate in their entertainment news - despite the fact that they seem to think London Tonight is seperate from ITN.

I like the idea of "a year lost" on London Tonight. Laughing I certainly wouldn't call it a year lost...a bad year...probably.

So it would seem we will get an hour long ITV Lunchtime News. I just hope the hour is wasted with 5 minute ad breaks every so often, and a big entertainment news section etc.

Personally I would have 30 minutes of news, 15 minutes from the regions, and then a 5 minute sport and business section. But I don't think that will happen, probably 20 minutes of news, some news from the regions, fairly long ad breaks, and some feature reports.

But, who knows, I may be proved wrong !

15 Mins from the regions is far too long - what we have just now, the 7 or so minutes is plenty. Towards the end of the local news they are just filling it out with competitions, esp. on Scotland Today.

6 of those 7 minutes are filled with stories like "a woman who said could never have a baby, has had one" or "children at a primary school have come up with an idea to..." Its best left at 7 minutes!

It seems that the regions are getting 13 minutes as part of the hour-long national news

Presumably this is a straight swap with mid-afternoons which will get a 5 minute bulletin?

Makes more sense I must say.

What makes you say the afternoons will get only 5 minutes? what are they going to fill the other 10 with?

Well for some reason at the moment the afternoon summaries aren't starting until 3:04, so they're around 8-9 minutes long usually with a local fill in for a minute or so afterwards before CiTV.

They'd most probably bring CiTV forward as they have gradually done for years.

With this hour news, is this why they're trialing with things like extra programmes at 1pm?

I make the bulletins approx 12 mins long, including weather.

I presume the later start is because the local news now goes straight into CITV - there is no break, and the regional social action fillers have been dropped.

Plus programmes in the afternoon seem to run at around 3 minutes past and end on the hour, for some reason.
