Has Des and Mel improved in the ratings recently then? From memory the One O'Clock News on BBC One used to hammer it into the ground in ratings terms. (A year or so ago the One was routinely getting a 40-50% share)

Really??!! I wasn't aware of that - I assumed Des & Mel was always performing really well - partly due to how much airtime it has been given since it started 2 years ago, but also I remember Des & Mel themselves often commenting on their viewing figures. Plus, on the official website it use to say 'ITV's most watched daytime programme'. (I've just checked and it doesn't say that anymore, LOL).

Obviously this does not mean ''let's use this hour long broadcast to go in-depth, with intelligent
news reporting and insightful interviews to explain the issues''.

It's more like, ''let's use this hour long broadcast to have our regular news slot, and fill the other
thirty minutes with pop-news features like phone polls and calls in shows that don't require
any effort on our part, and don't help viewers understand anything more than they'd
otherwise know''.

What an excellent plan.

Quite true. This basically enables itv to decommission the 05:30 news, replacing it with a further dumbed-down news programme containing exactly the sort of tabloid rubbish which would have been broadcast in the 13:00 slot anyway!
Bloody hell, if OFCOM falls for this, there really is no hope!

The maths is simple.
Before:
05.30: ITV Morning News; 12.30: ITV Lunchtime News; 13.00: Gossip programme.
After:
12.30-13.30: Dumbed down news programme!

Thank god for Channel 4 News.

A week after they returned in November, they came on air and said thankyou, and said that this current series has gained the most viewers out of all three series.

What is the source for this?

This seems very strange on ITV's part.
Could it not possibly be a 1 hour programme with half on ITV1 (as it is now) and the second half on the NC. a type of digital 'extra' show. basically similar to it is now but just better packaged and branded.

Mr Moggy? Is this a new nickname for c@t (I refuse to use the new version) Laughing

It is, it is. I hold my hands up to an act of username-changing lark.

Its days like these that I wish I'd just used 'Tom'.

IPSOS/RSL, who are doing the research for ITV.

It is quite clear that the proposal is for an hour-long ITV1 programme.

So what's the latest on this, and any idea when, if comissioned, the change will take place?

Will the fact that ITV1 are considering a longer lunchtime bullitin, mean that Scottish TV decide to scrap the Lunchtime edition of Scotland Today which has been running for nearly 15 years? I did hear that they stated it may be scrapped in 2005 due to scheduling changes.

What they mean is, any excuse to scrap any kind of Scottish programming and take programs from the ITV1 network. The quicker Scottish and Grampian is taking over by ITV.plc the better!!!

Yeah I agree. I hate the status quo at Scottish/Grampian TV now. I really wish we could be part of the ITV1 network. ITV1 Scottish or ITV1 Grampian would suit me. As long as they keep Scotland Today/North Tonight with the same/similar names.

hmmm, the grass is always greener. if tv forum is still around in a couple of years, no doubt you'll be bleating about the lack of scottishness on itv, and i will be here to remind you of what you wished for.

Trust me, I'll not want it to go back to what it is now!
