Ratings for yesterday:
ITV Lunchtime = 1.7 million (33%)
BBC One = 2 million (35%)
Are these figures good or bad for ITV?
If anything good, as it was roughly around 1 million daily who watched the old Lunchtime News, and with the audience share being 33% that is also good, as ITV1 usually averages out at 23%.
The two presenter format just isn't working. Nick and Katie are always talking over each other and stealing each other lines, while some of the OB Lives have suffered from three people trying to talk at once.
I also think relegating Nicholas Owen to co-host has restricted his ability to ad-lib - something that was a very popular feature of the old Lunchtime News.

Agreed, and have you noticed that when Nick isnt speaking he just sits there, open mouthed staring at the camera like a lost child! You can guaruntee that there will be at least one slip up in the lines delivery each day. Loved Nick almost pleading with viweres not to change channel during the break today 'Dont switch over whatever you do, we'll be back very very soon' or words to that effect
The whole Lunctime News isnt working. It drags on far too long, I was watching it yesterday, and was surprised that only 15 minutes had past, and seemed like 30 mins. The background is apalling, and throws the whole studio off colour, and is hardly used, and when is the contrast is taken out of the picture, plus half the shapes aint even proper cubes, and purple?! which doesnt even fit into the ITV day branding, so why not keep the normal dark blue? Bad graphics, too long and just does not work!

It DID annoy me, but now it is making quite a feature of the programme watching both presenters battle for the next line! Just after Nicholas Owen said, 'Dont switch over, dont switch off, whatever you do, we'll be back very very soon,' then Katie cut in,'he's desperate you know!!!'
It's the little things like this that are beginning to make the programme watchable again. It probably shouldnt have been relaunched before the election but I think it is beginning to find its feet and (especially in Wales) is making quite a watchable hour of news.
Now all ITN have got to do is move that ticker at the bottom up a bit so I can actually read the text messages that people are sending in! Oh, and also change that AWFUL square background! Surely the graphic designers at ITN must know how awful it looks and design something a bit less gawdy and full on. I think the background for The Pulse item is sometihng nearer what the background should look like.!
PS how many live interviews do they seem to have on the lunchtime news these days? Im sure I counted abou 7 today!
I'm sure there was some kind of tension between Bill and Katie today - there was little of the usual "lunchtime style" banter from the pair, and at the close they did not commuicate with one another whilst going down the walkway. Maybe it's just me, but it did seem kind of strange.
Anyway, anyone got any caps of today's 12.30? At one point the floor manager could be seen when Bill and Katie returned from the break.

Saw glimpses this afternoon, mainly the Liverpool reports, before watching the One O'Clock news but there was something up; Bill kept giving funny looks off camera, Patrick Burns Style....
