ITV is now carrying out research into viewers' reactions to ITV Day, including the new Lunchtime News.
One of the questions they ask is whether the bulletin should run 12.30-1.30, 1.00-2.00 or 1.30-2.30 - or be returned to the previous 30 minute format.
Why not 12-1? then This Morning would only be on in the morning. I can't actually see them ditching the hour long show, but it could do with a bit of a rethink. They need a sports and business round-up, plus cut the local news to the 7 or so mins it was in the previous half-hour show. Have a lenghty interview, and a couple of lives, and weather in studio.

Can't see Business easily fitting into ITV's target daytime audience. When Steve Scott and Andrea Catherwood presented on Thursday the programme seem *slightly* better. I'm a big fan of Nicholas Owen and Katie Derham isn't that bad, but I think they're maybe not the best pairing to be sat in the studio together.
One radical idea, would be to ditch Kier Simmonds live reports and put one of the presenters out on location and devote a large chunk of the second half of the programme to one topic/story.
It'll be interesting what they fill the show with now the election is over, will anyone be watching tommorow and posting, no doubt negative comments thereafter?
Surely the obvious answer here is to make the ITV Lunchtime News 45 minutes!
30 Minutes from London and 15 minutes from your own region!
This would work and would get rid of all the extra padding that has been given to the programme. This would essentially get us back to where we were a few years back when the local news used to be at 12:15 - 12:30 and the ITV Lunchtime News 12:30 - 13:00.
The new version could still start at 12:30 but finish at 13:15 which would allow Perserverance to start at 13:15 and then bring back CITV to starting at 15:15!
It appears that Ballot Box Jury has been replaced with The
PULSE
, same sort of thing but it's comments on News stories of the day, and today their guest is Tony Martin, yes the Norwich farmer.

And what valuable information can we gather from him? He was released over a year ago, and hasnt been in the headlines since. His story has been told over and over again, nothing has changed. Doesnt this prove the programme lasts too long and they are desperatly trying to fill the airtime?

I agree he's not an auspicious first guest for the new feature (and I find him incredibly irritating), but the peg for the interview was the teacher convicted for shooting those yobs, so there is some (albeit limited) value in revisiting the Martin case etc.
On a positive note, good to see that they're behind the proper desk for the first time, and not perched either side of that election one. The newswall background is still inappropriate though, considering we saw it's potential on election night.

I fail to see the value myself. The man was convicted of shooting someone in the back as they ran away, and remains unrepentant.
Having him there to give his tuppenworth is a bad move. Had I been watching I would have phoned to complain.
