On today's Lunchtime News Nick mentioned a new - look Lunchtime News. So, as well as it being extended to 1 hour, does it mean it may have a separate identity to the rest of ITV News ?

Yes, the caption whcih came up did have a somewhat different design to it. I do hope the titles aren't watered down to fit the 'ITV Day' branding though.

I wouldn't read anything into the phrase "new look". They basically mean "new format".

I can't see the titles and graphics changing - though they may introduce some tweaks, such as changing the background, which may be introduced across the ITV News programmes.

I suppose they think everyone has turned over to ITV1 for their local news... I wonder if the world will have some orange squares in it to fit in with ITV Day?

Maybe the desk will light up orange, we know it can seen in Budget 05... (also posted in ITV News thread)

Yeah, I suppose we should expect little changes like that and possibly the titles and format.
Any plans for alterations for other bulletins now, possibly News @ 10:30?

I doubt the 10.30 will be extended, but I suppose you could have the sports presenter (who is there anyway) doing some more on trhe programme... Maybe Trevor could sit down and do the 'News Reading' and the other presenter could take advantage of the newswall - which is hardly used for the 10.30 because of Trevor's legs... Confused - seeing as it is their 'Flagship' bulletin.

I, personally, think the whole of the News at 10.30 should be done from behind the desk, with the sports presenter joining Trevor at the desk at 10.52, and then at the end of the programme too. If the programme cannot be extended, maybe a 60 second regional news roundup could be considered, with more news from Trevor, and sport from Felicity from 10.30 until 10.55. Then the 1 minute from the regions, back for business headlines, newspapers, weather ( in the studio ), headlines, then the close at 22.59.

I think standing up could be unique to the Evening News, thus making it more fast - paced. Maybe standing up at Lunchtime as well, and maybe on the 10.30 if the story is big, and can be best illustrated by the presenter standing up.

You've got to stop watching ITV1 simulcasts on the News Channel!

After being sidelined, Katie's doing quite well now isn't she, she probably has the best of both worlds. Her permanent fixture on the Lunchtime News will no doubt mean she stops doing Friday's late news, unless she does a Nicholas Owen!

It's interesting what they'll do in the hour, some of it will of course be lighter Chris Choi type features, but I'm sure they'll do it well

We intend it to be quite a change from anything that has been done on ITV1 before. A bit more relaxed, yes, but also involving the viewers much more.

I have to say that this sounds rather ominous. Still, we shall see on Monday.
