Does any Members know why Westcountry Live / Channel Report doesn't have a " Dog " on the screen or why the Astons don't animate onto the screen like the rest of the ITV Local News Magazines ?
I thought that all the ITV Studios were now fully Digital & had the equipment / facilties for this Presentation etc
Also does any Users think that Channel Report will ever get a full ITV Local News Generic Studio Set with projection screen Showing Jeresy or Guernsey etc ?
I believe that Westcountry do not have the software to produce the animated astons, hence the non-standard look.
It would probably be too political for Channel to have a backdrop of a particular island, and the view from the studio of the local B&Q Superstore is far from exciting! I was surprised that Channel took the decision to use the ITV generic titles, although it clearly brings some cost savings, and a cohesive look with the rest of the regions.
What is superb about Channel is that they have produced their own idents for use on local output. It would be so easy for ITV plc regions to have similar, which could be played out locally prior to any regional news opts - The current situation of allowing the titles of the 6pm news programmes to always crash into the presentation looks awful.

Not really, there's no need to identify the channel and region before a local new programme that is named after the channel and the region!
Well I'd have guessed not from Channel simply as they are Independent from ITV Plc, so they're not in line with the tehcnical stuff, such as the equipment to generate DOG's or animated the Astons etc. I think ITV made the title sequence for them (as they did with the 2004 look) but nothing more than that.

Probably a case of hardware not software - it is likely that Westcountry's caption generator can't do the animation? Most caption generators a generation older than the current models were broadcast hardware based - rather than software.

Not all digital studios have identical facilities. Westcountry actually moved to digital production very early (as did Central News South at Abingdon) - it may be that their gallery has relatively elderly digital kit (Some of the digital studios at the BBC are well over 10 years old now) that can't do everything needed to implement the current ITV Regional News look (permanent DOG and animating name supers etc.)
I don't suppose ITV will invest money in upgrading or new technology for it's studios in Plymouth when it has proposals on mergers of ITV regional news studios or closures ?
When the ITV regions change to widescreen on Monday I wonder if the Westcountry Live / Channel Report on screen graphics will be finally updated & animate across the screen etc like the rest of the regions ?
