Well the weather is recorded not live so its less hassle making a weather report than having a presenter and crew live in the studio for a news bulletin. They even had a weaher forcast in mid afternoon on Bank Holiday Monday.

But the regional news often used to be an hour after News At 10 didnt it? ISTR the late regional bulletin was often at 11.20pm (at least on HTV Wales it was) prior to the changes in Feb 2004.

It was initially when News at Ten returned in 2001, but it wasn't long (6-12 months) before they were integrated - though I think the weather remained seperate until 2004.

I remember that, it was odd when News At Ten came back in 2001, but saying that I suppose they were trying to show off their newest programmes in the earliest time available, the first night was like this...

10.00pm News At Ten
10.20pm The Grimleys
10.50pm Baddiel and Skinner Unplanned
11.20pm Regional News

...clever idea in a way, but it never took off and 10.20pm was chosen not too long after.

I still don't get the weather thing - it seems so stupid keeping weather updates at random points in the day that once had a bulletin.

They've kept the local weather at the end of the local news though - prior to 2004 I think the late weather summary was often shown about an hour after News at Ten.

Well in a similar way there is a regional weather forecast after the late news on a Saturday and Sunday but there is no regional news bulletin at this time

Im sure I remember as late as 2003 that the regional news was at 11.20pm especially on a Friday (at least in the HTV Wales region it was)

Again this is because they dont need to do the weather live so might as well record it and play it out later. If they were to do a news bulletin it would have to be live and that would mean an entire newsteam in the studios in all regions late at weekends.

All of ITV Tyne Tees forecasts are recorded, unsure on the YTV bulletins, but they're probably recorded to.

Central's late ones used to be. And they'd do the next morning's GMTV ones at the same time.

Most of ITV Wales are too - the only time they are live is if the forcast comes from somewhere on location or the presenter is on the roof of Culverhouse Cross Smile

When the weather forcaster joins the presenters for a chat in the studio they go to a pre recorded forcast I think. The late forcast is definately recorded.

Yes, but on Fridays the bulletin was generally at 11pm.

When News at Ten was actually on (just 2-3 days a week usually), the regional news aired at 10.20pm within the bulletin.

I believe the regional news was at 11.20pm until just after the war in Iraq, so about mid 2002. After that date it was intergrated into the News at When.

Afraid the national ones are live (most of the time anyway) - I know this because it has been known for ITN tol get their times mixed up and start late and get cut off, or vice versa!
