Yep, as said a few weeks back, both Anglia News East and West will get the 'ITV makeover' around September time when they move back to Anglia House. West will lose that fake backdrop and be blessed with a real set, at last!
Yeah - that set's awful - you get fuzzy lines round everything. Appreciate East now I get that on sky. Whole thing is much better
What about UTV, or, Channel - does there set county as Generic ITV?
John
UTV's set looks nothing like the generic ITV one and I doubt that it will ever become like it since they also film the lifestyle segment of UTV Live from the same set.
The new studio is awful, a tiny effort utterly lacking in any imagination. And it wilfully relegates the local news to the sofa format. Absolutely pathetic -- it looks like something bought out of an Ikea catalogue -- and that is the spirit of the thing.
Tyne Tees hasn't had a decent set since early 2000. This set is a major improvement on the last four.
Always liked that one. Wonder if we'll ever see that white christmas tree again. Better be quiet in case I set Steve off though... it's only about 24 weeks to go now don't you know...
At least it means most ITV regions have ended up with a better set than they used to have.
The ITV generic set isn't perfect but it's far better than what used to go before in most regions.
It's also adaptable - look at how Granada used it for the Liverpool homecoming.
This is a good point really if you think about it, Granada Reports used to have an awful set, Central News West didn't have a great set, Calendar's set used to look good in the pre-2004 look and ITV West News, need I say more really.
In most cases the Generic sets seem to outshine their predacessors.
I've also noticed many regions are getting the new equipment for the astons, Meridian and Tyne Tees got them because of new facilites, where as Granada, Central and Yorkshire all got them installed later on. These make it look more professional IMO.

Teesside had an awful graphics generator in the last few months, no fades or anything, aa bit shaky and sometimes not there at all. The old generator went a few months ago during a 10.50 bulletin, getting stuck on an MP's name right the way through the bulletin and weather report. It seems the "4 squares" are/were seperate from the rest of the graphics though.
Anglia had an animating aston for the election, but it has always been fades and just a sharp on and off for astons when the live aston is showing. Hopefully the graphics will get a little bit of an update when they move back in a few months, the astons leave a big gap at the sides - looks really dodgy.

It had served Teesside well enough though -- it was the same generator as was being used back in 93 for Network North. TBH it looked crappy even then. It never quite matched the typestyle of the Newcastle one. Some of the copies of the Newcastle designs they came up with were as laughable as the ones they made up on the IVC caption generator for the local news presented by announcers in the late 80s.....
noticed in a (very well presented) central 7:30 program tonight, that they used central souths studio. Why have nottingham moved but not south? Are there plans too? (the studio wasn't generic)

Because the central studio was evacuated.
Even though ITV Central's Birmingham building is a potting shed anyway, they're not even using all of it!
Last time I walked past, there was a "To Let" (or similar) sign re: some of the office space. CNwest and CNeast occupy the only currently existing studios in the building.
But, what's the betting that it'll occur to ITVplc at some point to convert some of the currently unwanted B'ham office space into a studio for CNsouth, and relegate the Abingdon (Oxford) building to newgathering-only status?
