If you're trying to say that Scotland Today was the first regional news bulletin on any of the ITV franchises then you're wrong - very very wrong.

I'm not sure if it was STV who had the first regional news magazine. What I do know for certain is that the first one did not only start as late as 1972.

I know what you are getting at. In the very early days of ITV regional news was very short, 5 minute bulletins.

Tyne Tees is often credited with having the first true regional news magazine, "North East Roundabout", in 1959. But as I understand it this was only initially on once a week, the rest of the week making do with a 10-minute bulletin. It went full time in 1960, by which time I believe a few other stations had 5-day half hour programmes.

Don't quote me on this, but I *think* Ulster had a 5-day half-hour programme from day one, also possibly called Roundabout.

I was going to suggest that maybe Scotland Today was the longest running, but thinking about it, YTV's Calendar has been running for longer not sure it was so much of a news programme in its early years though.

Well the first Regional News type programme was probably whatever Rediffusion did in their early days. Granada would be the company that would have had a Regional News programme made by one company for the longest time, albeit under many names such as Scene At 6.30, Northern Newscast, Six-O-One, Granada Tonight and Granada Reports .

As for the programme that has the held the name for the longest time, it would probably be Lookaround for Border.

Though Regional News programmes were different in the old days of ITV, as they were more magazine themed with little News, only since the late 1970's and the early 1980's they've made them more News focused thanks to the IBA and Regionalism at it's peak, hence why Central came about and why Granada had to open a Liverpool news room.
