This much is obvious...
The dividing wall that was built to turn what used to be the CNwest/CiTV “shared studio” into the the two seperate CNwest/CNeast studios that it is now, does not appear to have been built in the exact centre.
So, CNwest was afforded the larger amount of space, allowing for projection distances for the “window” backdrop, and a bit of spare room at the front of the set (see the amount of floor in front of the platform in the
wideshot, including the visible front camera, and the “Central News” projected on the floor.
Whereas CNeast was afforded very little space, hence being stuck with a static backdrop (no room for projection distances), and no spare floor in front of the platform, at the front of the
wideshot.
My theory of what might be going on...
Maybe the dividing wall isn’t “permenant” (i.e. bricks-and-morter, or similar), but is made out something a bit more “temporary”-ish (but nonetheless soundproofed, so that the two live back-to-back programmes’ sound don’t interfere with each other).
The wall is therefore somehow moveable (not easily – but perhaps has to be “unbolted” (or whatever) and laboriously moved gradually, perhaps in sections or something).
I think that part of why CNeast decamped to the meeting room for a week was so that the above could happen, thus giving the CNeast studio enough extra space for the projected backdrop they now have. All the painstaking moving of the wall would have to happen at times when CNwest bulletins weren’t on air, so that they didn’t have to decamp too.
The wall being moved in sections would mean there would be gaps at times, thus defeating any soundproofing measures – hence why one of the sub-regions would need to decamp.
Now that CNwest have the teal look, the spare bit of floor in the foreground – as I mentioned above – appears to have vanished. CNwest’s platform is now right at the front of the wideshot, like CNeast’s already is/was, and the “Central News” is projected onto the front of the actual platform, instead of in front of the platform – all of which implies they’ve lost some space. Non-news regional programmes that come from the CNwest set (Central Extra etc) also lack the extra bit of forground floor. This is another reason why I think the two studios’ sizes have been equalised.
