ITV Central News West has finally got a proffesional backdrop of Birmingham, in good quality! This is the third backdrop since it launched this studio, but have to say it now looks much better.

Although the new version was not used in the late bulletin. Wonder why it has taken so long to get it right?

All it needs now is the smaller seats.

Its very much like Midlands Today, keep swapping views every few months, with their previous set. I bet at Night it looks good.

Yeah, any caps? And Midlands today infact has a real background of the newsroom behind it! and AFAIK thats the way it has always been since they moved into The Mailbox.

The New ITV one is just an updated shot, as the retunder (sp) is currently being stripped down to its frame isnt it. Laughing

It seems better quality footage actauly too.

Here is the original view in the CNwest "window". Unlike other ITVplc regions' views, it is the view from the actual rooftop of the ITV studio building itself, as far as I'm aware (which, unfortunately, also makes it NOT "the" view of Brum (i.e. in the same way that, say, Clifton Suspension Bridge is arguably "the" view of Bristol, etc etc)).

The mirror-like tall building behing Bob is the Hyatt Hotel. The white tall building behind Llewella is the Alpha Tower - a building that is physically part of the same building/complex-of-buildings on Broad Street that were formerly the ATV/Central Independent Television building, (until 1995, when Carlton-isation etc caused them to downsize to the shoebox of a building they're now in, which is literally just round the corner, in Gas Street).

The watery-ness at the bottom of the view is Gas Street canal basin. The view was live (either that or "nearly live", e.g. five-minute-delay etc) as far as I'm aware - which meant the view in the "window" sometimes looked a bit blurry on rainy days, due to a damp camera lens.

In order to change to "the" view of Brum (i.e. a view that includes the Rotunda, BT tower, etc), they had to film from a location within the city that is away from the ITV studios. Naturally, they wouldn't want a camera permenantly erected somewhere away from the studios, so the view is now a pre-recorded one (as most regions' views are, for exactly the same reasons - i.e. ITV studios' rooftop views don't necessarily happen to overlook "the" view of their respective cities, so pre-recorded views had to be filmed from other vantage points).

Are most regions ''window views'' pre-recorded?
Which ones are and which ones aren't?

Yeah, but towards the end of that Gas St View, the nighttime one was recorded. Shame it cannot be live now, but is much better view. Notice today the picture quality was bad again!
