Al should be presenting on the night, not Tom. He is good on The Agenda, but Al has proven to be excellent through the night, and on the Leaders' Debate - although I'm sure Julie will be great.

I'm surprised nothing has been mentioned about the Scottish Independence Referendum coverage on ITV, assuming they will provide coverage...

Bad move by ITV - Alastair is GREAT at election coverage.

Al's mate David Mannion was still running ITV News in 2010 - this decision is probably the new regime wanting to put their stamp on things.

Purely speculative, but that would be a great coup for STV to go on network and utilise their news and political resources and provide the Independence results to the UK...

Is Tom good enough to hold the whole programme? It's possible Al has stepped down from election night now. I would of personally proffered Julie or. Mary to be with him in the studio. I'm surprised itv don't want at least one of the main four on top coverage. Did Tom do anything last election night? I think he was involved?
Wonder how Good Morning Britain will cover this also, considering it's more news based wonder if any of itv news team may be utilised.

Really disappointed by this news - totally bonkers decision. Alastair Stewart exudes professionalism and authority in a way Tom Bradby never will. He's competent but by no means brilliant.

I really hope it was Alastair's choice not to host next year's election night coverage. If not, then what a hugely bad move by ITV.

This is probably the first duff decision Geoff Hill has made since becoming editor.

They probably think choosing Bradby over Stewart is more likely to appeal to an audience that the BBC's programme doesn't appeal to.

I know election night is very important, but with a tight election result possible the day after will arguably be just as important

At some point you have to start bringing through the next 'Alastair Stewart'. He's seasoned enough as a political correspondent and presents on The Agenda.

So a progression for Bradby, whilst ensuring that Stewart still plays a role. Either way, the BBC will still dominate - so why not ?

Well at least it's not Schofield, although that said would like to see C4 try some kind of entertainment based alternative once again.

Terrible decision by ITV. The 2010 election was the first election night that I watched ITV pretty much throughout. It was because of Al, who would have a joke and a laugh even in the wee small hours and he was very clear and concise with what he was telling people throughout.

Next years election will probably be back with the BBC for me, not at least because it's Dimblebores last one.
