Bloody Kirsty Young! Wouldn't have been so bad if she'd stuck around, but she did the Lunchtime News for a year, got pregnant, came back and quit to go to five - but was excellent with the rolling coverage of September 11th. One of the things that stands out from ITV's coverage that day is Kirsty talking to her husband who was in New York at the time!


Perhaps if Julia does a good job she'll be welcomed back into the fold Alistair Stewart style - especially as ITV are currently running short on female newsreaders as they all seem to be getting pregnant!


She didn't exactly quit to go to five... at the time she was working for ITN, and she may have been moved to five news (ITN) by Grays Inn Road bosses at the time.

Nope, she quit ITV to move to Five. ITN weren't her employers, hence her seamless move presenting Sky news produced Five bulletins.

I'm not certain, but she was the only person confirmed at the time who would be switching over from ITN to Sky to present Five News. If the same happened at ITV then Trevor McDonald would be the same, as he's employed by ITV, everyone else by ITN.

Though saying that other than the odd debate show here or there, I don't think she's presented anything else on Five since she came back.

This is going to be fantastic this. Anna Ford and Julia on ITV news. Yee Haa. It will be interesting to see them with Mark and Anna, and if a major news story breaks im pretty sure they would know how to handle it as its probably like riding a bike.

There was a promo for next week's guest presenters at the end of the Evening News tonight, voiced (if I'm not mistaken) by Stuart Thomas, editor of ITV London News.

Just to add to that, Londoner, but in another thread, it stated Martyn Lewis (Andrea Catherwood's father) died in January! How is he going to join Mary and Mark???

I think someone was tipping Martyn as a possible replacement for Trevor McDonald, rather than suggesting that that was the name of Andrea's father!
