I don't think we should take it so seriously. The former presenters are not going to be in the same league as Mary,Mark and co.It's nostalgia nothing else and lets be honest some that are at ITN today are not that great .At least Gordon,Selina and Julia in their day were up to standard.

What a brilliant week from ITN.Gordon was brilliant it was so nice to see him back and Mary was excellent with him .Be fantastic to see Anna tomorrow night.

Ok, your opinion. But the man came accross as boring, and old fashioned. He didn't add any flavour or cement to the Evening News, and putting him on was a mistake.

It was by no means a mistake! This man really is a golden oldie to ITN, and no-one can expect an anchor from the 60s to be perfect 40 years later! After all, this is the birthday "celebrations". Roll on Anna!

i think gordon was fantastic. when gordon was on the news channel with joyce the contrast between light weight and veteran was very stark. there are some fantastic presenters at itn, joyce is not one of them.

but yes, great to see a legend back on our screen!

What happened at the end? I wasn't able to watch that bit. I must say that in the few bits I did see, Gordon did seem incredibly wooden. The reading style between Gordon and Mary was like chalk and cheese!

He waved "see-ya" at the end of the bulletin instead of (presumably) plugging his appearance on the news channel afterwards.

I add myself to those who've enjoyed the novelty of this week; i suppose tomorrow should be the smoothest of the lot what with Anna Ford still newsreading.

I must admit i have never been that keen on Mary but after tonight i thought she was excellent with Gordon and a real sport at then end i have enjoyed this week so much pity it can't continue .

See the whole Julia sounds like Anna thing - why on Earth does Anna Ford sound hoarse all the time? Its like she's been doing a lot of screaming before her stint on air!

Gordon's finish on ITV News...

I hate it when that happens. Especially when Mary carries on so professionally, she should've waved as well, it wouldn't have made Gordon look so out of place! Razz

Please **** off, you pleb.

This place was so much better when infants like you weren't here.

Why are you making it so personal? I didn't do that, I was merely putting forward my opinion, as I said.

I think he was alright considering he only had one hour rehearsal time, however my cream of the crop peformance wise at the moment has to be that of Julia Somerville and Martyn Lewis.
