what a fab bulletin. I'm loving this veterans week, it's so fab.

I'm looking forward to Anna Ford most of all. Why can't they have people like this on the BBC anymore instead of Kerplunky and her kind?

Martyn was excellent......and at the end he hinted he would like to get back into it! He was 100% perfect tonight.....a refreshing change from Mark Austin and his "nooose"!!

This week has been brilliant!!

He didn't say he wanted to get back into it - he said he had "been there, done that and got the t-shirt!"

I thought he was a true pro - he looked completely at home there - he handled everything perfectly. I could have easily been fooled that he was the regular presenter, had I not seen the Evening News before. I thought he was much better than Mark Austin - much more authoritative and less awkward. Shame there's no chance of a comeback.

I didn't think it was as smooth as the previous two bulletins though; Mary came across as a concerned daughter at times, rather than his co-presenter!

Absolutely. Get rid of Mary and bring back Nina and Julia.

Nina will have her time in the future...whether that will be with ITN or not, we'll have to wait and see.

As for Mary, she's fine where she is!

I agree with you i have nothing against the younger ones but i much prefer Selina and Julia i am realy looking forward to seeing Anna back at ITN on Friday. They are far superior to Mary and Nina.I would still love to see Carol Barnes and Pamela Armstrong back i noticed Carol in the audience of Avenue of the stars the other night.

Fiona, not Pamela Armstrong surely?

I was never struck on Fiona, personally. Very wooden if I remember correctly.

Here here......I almost forgot how good newsreaders used to be.....Martyn looked as though he presented every day!

When Selina left ITN at the end of 1982 it was decided that ITN would not replace her with another female straight away.Late 1983 Pamela Armstrong joined ITN as the new female anchor on News At Ten she eventually left ITN around 1987 and launched her own afternoon chat show on BBC2.I forgot about Fiona actually she replaced Pamela .I quite liked her although she should have stayed at ITN and gave GMTV a miss.

You know what would be so funny on Friday when Anna presents, is if for a moment she forgets where she is and refers to the BBC.

... Be funny I think.

Wouldn't surprise me. She's awful on the One. I wouldn't be surprised if she forgets which camera she's on either! Rolling Eyes

I always remember as a toddler watching Martyn Lewis on the BBC One O'Clock News (after Rainbow on ITV!). The way the camera panned down onto him after the opening titles used to scare me for some reason! Smile

I think ITN should have included the likes of Sue Carpenter and Fiona Armstrong. Both served much lengthier times than Selina Scott.

Gordon seemed a bit clueless at the end there!
