Ison's mentioned this in the ITV News thread, but this probably deserves a thread of its own.

Anna Ford, Gordon Honeycombe, Selina Scott, Martyn Lewis and Julia Somerville will each be presenting the ITV Evening News with either Mark or Mary during the week of 19-23 September.

Full details from Press Gazette

Sounds excellent!

Whilst I'm sure this is probably quite a nice idea - my only concern is what happens if there's a really big breaking news story during that week. Some of those named haven't read a bulletin in quite a while - and the new snazzy ITV News set is a far cry from the old man-behind-desk-looking-at-the-same-camera-for-30-minutes style of yesteryear.

Will they get kicked off air if something big happens?

I wonder if they were cheeky enough to ask for Dermot, but Anna was offered instead. Laughing

How about a few of the more recent ITN favourites, John Suchet & Carol Barnes doing a ITVNC shift or something ?

It would be nice to see Angela Rippon doing the Evening News. I know she already has a Sunday morning slot on the News Channel.

I cannot wait to see Julia Somerville again, haven't seen her for years..

Don't think Angela Rippon would play much of a part, hasn't she pretty much always been a BBC name? I'm pretty surprised about all this really, I'm not sure if it's entirely appropriate for their flagship bulletin - probably more appropriate for a few slots here and there on the news channel, as has been mentioned it seems a bit of a novelty, and would even more so if some major news happens to break throughout that week.

I think this is a nice idea but agree with the above comments - I suppose we'll just have to see how it'll turn out.

What about Sir Alistair & Sir Sandy?

Don't think that Sandy was ever knighted, but I would really like to see him back doing it.

You cannot beat the old-school of newsreaders. Anna Ford, Martyn Lewis etc. all far far superior to the simpering young tarts that ITV & BBC now insist on having in front of the camera.

Equidem.........I love you! Nicely summed up. Whilst there undoubtedly IS some good, new, young capability out there, I agree with you when you say that the era of Lewis, Ford, Burnet and Gall was the time when newscasters were serious and not celebrity-spiked.

IMO, Martyn Lewis' worst ever move was from ITN to the BBC. He seemed to lose all credibility after that, although Anna Ford has managed to retain it somehow.

Of today's "breed", only Sissons, Moira and Hayton retain that certain past influence.
