Am I right in thinking channel 5 haven't produced a proper news programme since 19 December? Just updates until 5th January? Is this a first?

They did it last year as well.

54 days later

3 years today, 5 News moved to an ITN production.

And in those 3 years 5 news has improved greatly. Much better than under Sky news reign. Now there are frequent 5 news specials, week long reports and investigations which I've found to be well produced. IMO it's better under ITN.

I would agree, and it always was better under ITN including from the initial launch in 1997.

A new set and titles would be a nice birthday present!

Agree completely that 5 News under ITN is a much better product, even with less budget.

Are there plans to move the programme to Greys Inn Road now that the channel is under Viacom ownership or is it to remain at N&S for the foreseeable future?

I think a deal was made to keep all C5 operations at N&S for a year (?) at least.

My guess is that Viacom is exploring whether or not to move the news operation into it's European HQ in Camden or to go down the original C5 route of the studio being based at ITN. Studio space at ITN is now fairly limited because a lot of shifting about has taken place since the old 5 News days. There are pros and cons to both options. One thing is for sure - the current set-up of being based in N&S will be very much a short term measure.

Was the old London Tonight studio returned to office space?

Yes, Brekkie, Studio 4 was indeed returned to office space. As was the original home of 5 News, Studio 5. The old London gallery, PCR2 has been relocated to the basement and PCR4 - which was the 5 News gallery during its most recent spell at Gray's Inn Road - has also been removed.

All that's left now in terms of studios are 1, 2 and 6 and control rooms PCR1, PCR2 and PCR6.

Hasn't a lot of Camden been turned into office space too?

Retro 5 News from the newsroom anyone? The new Camden HQ would be ideal.
