Has anyone seen Polly Whitehouse in a while? I can't remember the last time I did.
She did weekend bulletins a week or so back.
It seems as though she rarely presents the evening updates anymore, was wondering whether she had left actually. I'm pleased to hear that this isn't the case.
C5 has also extended ITN’s contract to produce its 5 News bulletins by two years - until 2017.
The deal reinforces C5’s commitment to news as it also agreed to grow its total news output from 260 to 280 hours per year, including ramping up peak time news by 20 hours to 120 hours per year. The current affairs quota remains unchanged at 130 hours per year, including 10 hours in peak time.
According to C5, its 5 News bulletin at 5pm has grown its audience share throughout 2014 and averages 530,000 viewers (4.5%), while Ofcom research has previously indicated C5’s output reaches viewers who do not watch news bulletins on other channels.
Quote:
“The 5 News team at ITN has done a widely admired job in differentiating its bulletins to engage audiences that aren’t being reached by other broadcasters and they should be very proud of the recognition their efforts have received,” he said.
ITN chief executive John Hardie added: “5 News makes an important contribution to the media landscape in the UK by consistently delivering distinctive, authoritative news programmes and I am delighted that Channel 5 has recognised the quality of work of our team.”
That article (or at least those quotes) are a bit misleading. C5 has not agreed to increase it's news output. It is already exeeding its quotas and some of that voluntary exceedance is being made a license obligation at the suggestion of Viacom. The full details are on the Ofcom website
5 News is airing a 5 News Special: Remembrance Sunday at 11:00, does 5 normally do this. I see ITV are not showing a scheduled bulletin til 11:25
No announcement over the ident. A single camera which didn't appear to know it was on air, zooming and panning all over the place taking wild shots. The bulletin ending before the Queen made it back down the steps. The end slate cut off in the middle.
Was really impressed that Channel 5 bothered to do something, but I wish what they'd done was rather better.

I might be wrong but I don't think ITV has done the silence for years. They used to have it during Morning Worship but that was from a church rather than the Cenotaph.
C5 do a very brief 11am news on Remembrance Sunday every year. Usually ITV News air their lunchtime news at 11am. There has been 'controversy' on here in the past because they brought James Mates in early to do it instead of using Faye Barker as duty weekend daytime presenter
5 News with Simon Vigar was introduced by Matthew Wright for a brief glimpse of the studio then straight to the pictures from London.
Nice back from the break view of some poppies on the desk on the Wright Stuff.
