They didn't waste money on it, for sure . . . but C5 News is in the basement of Northern & Shell's HQ: surely the heart of the news gathering operation for Express Newspapers?
Correct me if i'm wrong, but the budget for 5 news isn't the largest? so that's probrably why there is no 'real' set.

I was said on here that they were building a set in the newsroom. Which is why they were not moving fir a while.
When they cross to the newsroom it is lit up with 5 news

It would be great to see 5 News back from inside the newsroom, offering a difference in presentation to the others at the moment, rather than copying them.

I'm not sure if you're being facetious or not. Either way, the newsgathering operation for the Express newspaper group is not exactly terribly formidable. Hence the poor product that is the Express. Making stuff up about Princess Diana, Madeleine McCann, house prices and the weather is a lot cheaper than actually employing reporters or having foreign correspondents.

Well, 6:30 is still the slot for the 5 News Specials. Tonight, in place of NewsTalk Live, we have 'The Philippine Typhoon: A 5 News Special'.
I presume it will just take the format of those before the existence of NewsTalk Live, just held entirely at the desk. Although I think that tonights update presenter will have a news 'round-up'(?).
Also, I have notice them using this angle recently, which just showcases how bad that left wall looks.

That would suggest the front is actually a replaceable plastic screen, that gets changed over between shows. Probably takes only a few minutes to do that. It may be virtually accented in the same way the old BBC1 globe was to make it appear better on air.
