Eugh, does this mean Desmond intends to move the showbiz mush over to the main news programme? Or is this a clear enough indicator that even the lowest common denominator has the bar set a little higher?

With the axing of OK!TV, it's surely the green light for the London Tonight showbiz format circa 04-10 for 5 News? A tiny bit of current affairs, with showbiz and human interest filling the majority of the bulletin and the occasional studio interview with a celeb.
Yes, that's how I read the original story about ITN taking it over - a more showbizzy news bulletin.
Having the operation at C5 rather than ITN is interesting, that would have course mean that they're in the same building as the Daily/Sunday Express/Star and OK Magazine. I wonder how much they'll be involved in the TV news?

That surely is part of the plan, instead of hiring out hacks from other papers, they can easily ask a Star/Express/OK! journalist to come on the bulletin for free as they're all part of Northern & Shell family.
Sorry but nothing can beat the original 5 News from 1997. The knock-on effect that it had on the presentation of practically every other news programme in the UK was incredible - this was back in the days when BBC News was presented in front of a plain blue background, ITV News was presented in front of a plain blue background... you get the idea.
This one is one of the best of the original Channel 5 News Updates:
In terms of how the studio and newsroom will be set up, presumably everything would be set up to be HD ready, but would ITN determine if they will go HD or Channel 5?
As they will be creating a new studio and newsroom, would anybody like to see a return to presentation from Within the newsroom? At least it would create different presentation and offer something to the other networks.

This is the closest to in-house 5 News will be.
I wonder what the relationship between ITN and N&S will be, it does sound like ITN's role will be more as a provider than a producter. It could be that they'll provide the news production infrastructure, newsgathering resources and video content.... and then N&S will use that to produce the programme. That's presumably how it's so much cheaper a deal.
I doubt the paper reporters will be able to produce for both, the resources of the papers are cut to the bone already. There are the 40 or so staff from the current 5 News of course.

The production system is one developed by ITN so possibly not HD, and remember that as I mentioned earlier in this thread it depends on what the format of the external content is.... not much will be HD

This, by the way, is where the original 5 News "look and feel" came from (Canada):

I agree that the print staff won't work on the bulletin, but can be used for quotes in packages and to guest on the programme. Logistically, it'll be a lot easier to ask the staff to pop into the 5 Newsroom than sending them in a taxi to Osterley (or Elstree for OK! TV) which would take more of their time away from their own newsrooms.
However it'll be interesting to see if one of the newspaper titles gets an exclusive, will they share it with 5? I seem to recall they had access to News International exclusives as part of the contract with Sky News.
