Could ITN News Channel rise from the ashes?

It's online, on mobiles - why not on TV? (November 2005)

Talking of mocks, I've been playing around with a few ideas so I might work on them a bit more then post them, even if it's just to get other (better) mockers thinking about doing ITN mocks.

It's also interesting thinking about how the ITN News Channel would have looked if it had launched earlier (it was first considered in 1983 apparantly!) - especially as up until the mid-90s each programme still had an individual look.

I think the internet "ITN News Channel" is just reports, not studio anchored. The stuff on Yahoo! is similar to the BBC Interactive service, with just an ITN sting between each story.

Back to the ITN News Channel, a few questions:

Arrow Anyone got a rough schedule for who presented when during the early days?

Arrow Though it was a basic headline service, some programmes were branded with quite a range of names use. There was definately "News at Ten" and "Nine O'Clock News", and I think an "Evening News" too. Anyone got more info?

Arrow Also, when did the likes of Carol Barnes and Julia Somerville leave and apart from John Suchet, did any ITV News presenters of the time appear on the channel before it rebranded in 2002?

Another question, about ITN World News.

What time did it go out, and was it broadcast live? Also, were the likes of Daljit Daliwell assigned specifically to present the show, or did they just do it as an addition to their other ITN roles (i.e. presenting C4 News).

A long time ago ITN World News used to be shown as recorded in the UK at 5:30am on the ITN Morning News, it then disappeared, however it was on the NBC Super Channel which used to be broadcast on 19.2E, but that was a long time ago now, I haven't seen it since 1997!

There's a clip on TV Ark of ITN Super Channel News that was basically ITN World News in all but name, but that was done at 9.00pm in the UK, though I'm not certain and was probably likely to have been recorded later if it was still to be used during the ITN Morning News.

i remember itn didn't cut away from a report and after the usual "<reporter name> itn <location>" sign off and a slight pause, the reporter did another sign off "<reporter name> itn world news for public television <location>" or something like that.

and that was in the post 1999 era - so it must have continued up until that point.

I believe it was live at 22:30 (UK) 17:30 (EST) I think Daljit was the main presenter hence why she was fairly well known in the states.

Katy Haswell also presented it for a while. What's happened to her?!

Thankyou. I was also about to ask a question in another thread about why News at Ten didn't adopt the general look in the 90s or use the main ITN Newsroom - but as the World News used the main ITN studio I think you may have just answered it.

What happened after 1999 though? From things I've read the ITN World News continued until 2001. I know the ITN studio remained for some time as the ITV Morning News continued to come from it (for some strange reason!), then in 2000 it was finally removed to make way for the ITN News Channel. Did they use the ITN NC studio for it?
