Courtesy of russnet, here's the News Report announcing the death of Mother Theresa:

BBC News Report - Mother Theresa

What day of that week did she die? As I remember at the time that the whole country and TV itself went rather quiet that week, where there was nothing but News and fillers. I do remember when they showed Mother Teresa's Funeral, though the only channels that showed it were Sky News and CNN, primarily because it was happening at 7.00am on a Saturday morning!

(Though watching that video then made me think of The Naked Gun 33,1/3 spoof, "Mother Teresa, The Musical")

Mother Theresa's death was announced the evening before the funeral of Princess Diana.

They've always had a system for doing such a thing - via the 'Red Phone' system.

The roll call must be a heck of a lot quicker nowadays. Just Scottish and Ulster, plus Channel if it's during their manned hours.

And Leeds?

Ahh cheers for clearing that up, I remember that night when took Diana's coffin to somewhere before the funeral, so it had to go through Central London, as I remember that ITN broke into ITV after Coronation Street to bring the coverage.

And Leeds?

Wouldn't have thought so, except in the rare event of something that their synchronised computers hadn't already sorted out between themselves.

Can't see many events that would require the humans at the South Bank needing to talk to the human in Leeds.

I did mention this on page 1 about Mother Theresa's death announcement being told the evening before Di's funeral but there you go.

On September 11th, ITV1's broadcast with Kirsty Young started immediately after Part 1 of an episode of Crossroads

Bit of pop trivia for you - it's the only episode that's never been broadcast on ITV1. The teatime showing took place at 5.30pm on ITV2 (which, at the time, was ITV Digital only) however the following day ITV1 played the next episode with merely a short "Neighbours/Home & Away style" recap of the 11 Sep ep - which was so poorly constructed nobody had any idea about what storylines they'd missed.

The coverage of the War on Terror was halted prematurely - missing the first speech given by Tony Blair - so they could show Pop Idol. Why?

Just in case this is the more appropriate thread... I'll ask my question here too:

Having been rather busy this weekend... can anybody tell me how UTV handled any News Reports or Obit Progs this weekend?

Did they take any ITV1 network continuity, or did they manage to get in and out of their network feed cleanly using their own pres?
